Karachi: Sindh Graduates Association (SGA), Bhittai Abad Branch organized a gathering on January 08, 2020 at SGA Head Office, Rimpa Plaza Karachi to pay tribute to Mr. Altaf Shaikh, a marine engineer by profession, renowned travelogue writer and author of over 100 books on his travels around the world.

Altaf Shaikh, born in 1944, got his early education from Hala, his hometown, and then from Cadet College Petaro. He studied Marine Engineering at Marine Academy Chittagong, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and did post-graduation from the World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden.

Sailing as Chief Engineer on various types of ships for many years, he served Malaysian and then Pakistan Marine Academy. He is also a regular columnist of daily newspapers of Pakistan, Malaysia and Japan.

Beside other awards, he is recipient of Presidential Award Tumgha e Imtiaz of Pakistan and PJK (Pingat Jasa Kebaktian) a Malaysian Award.

The event was attended by a large number of literary persons and from different walks of life including Imdad Hussaini, Hidayat Baloch, Professor Aijaz Qureshi, Rafique Jaffery, Muhammad Suleman Wassan, Javed Mahar, Sher Mahranvi and others.

The speakers lauded the contribution of Altaf Shaikh in Sindhi literature with travelogue-writing.
