Tent Village for flood-hit Darawar Community established

Earlier, the NGO from Vusaib area had erected Tent Villages in three villages of Union Council Naseer Fakeer Jalalani of Kotdiji Taluka.

Following the completion of work of establishing Tent Villages for displaced families in three villages of Union Council Naseer Fakeer Jalalani, the Saiban Kissan Society, the Multan-based non-government organization, has focused on providing shelter and food to the flood-affected families of Meghwar Village in adjoining Union Council Talpur Wada of Taluka Kotdiji of Khairpur district.

“We have selected a village of Darawar Community to set up Tents Village and ensure provision of two-time cooked food,” Mr. Bashir Mallah, an old rights activist and member-elect of District Council Khairpur, told Sindh Courier.

“The village is located at the border of Thari Mirwah and has around 5000 population of Meghwar Community, and we, accompanied by Mr. Zaffar Iqbal, head of the Saiban Kissan Society, held meeting with the community on Monday, and also hosted lunch and dinner for them,” he said.

Bashir Mallah said that the female literacy rate among the Meghwar Community is 40 percent, as the girls’ school and a college is very close to them in Bozdar Wada.”

“All arrangements were almost finalized to erect Tent Village for Meghwar Community. Work had been started and some of the tents were erected so far to accommodate displaced families,” he added.

On Tuesday, the Saiban Kissan Society also arranged a medical camp for the ailing villagers while the provision of cooked food also continued. By the afternoon, some 600 female patients were examined and provided with free medicines. It is expected that till evening, similar number of male patients would be examined by the doctors.

It is pertinent to mention that male and female volunteers of Darawar Community were actively taking part in all these activities. One of the active volunteers is Ms. Babli Bai, who is married and had done intermediate, and is leading the local volunteers. It may also be mentioned that late Asma Jehangir had also visited this village.

Countries Dismantle Soviet-Era Monuments

Countries that had been within Moscow’s orbit during the Soviet period — particularly Poland and the Baltic states — have moved to remove Soviet-era monuments from their public spaces.

Here’s a look at some of the monuments that have been dismantled in recent months:

A T-34 tank was dismantled in Narva, Estonia on Aug. 16.

On Aug. 16, a Red Army obelisk in Narva Castle Park was dismantled.

The monument to the builders of the Narva Power Plants in Estonia, was torn down on Aug. 7.

A monument to Soviet soldiers in the city of Merkine, Lithuania, was demolished on May 20.

A sculpture of a Soviet soldier located in the Kedainiai cemetery in Lithuania was dismantled on April 27.

A monument to Soviet soldiers was dismantled in Marijampolė, Lithuania on April 22. A sculpture titled “Soldier” was removed from the Soviet cemetery in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas on April 26.

Russia-Ukraine military conflict exerts impact on life of Europeans

A number of supermarkets in some European countries have reportedly started restricting how much flour and cooking oil a customer can buy.

The ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine has exerted great impact on the lives of European people. With rising price increases and panic buying due to worries over supply issue, a number of supermarkets in some European countries have reportedly started to restrict how much flour and sunflower oil a customer can buy.
