How unfortunate is it that the children are forced to replace their toys with different unwanted and filthy chores? Child labor, in fact, is curse which makes innocent children to accept inappropriate work. It’s sorry state of affairs that our country has abolished all kind of child labor, but still the children are in forced or indentured servitude.

Child labor is a slap on the face of government and the society, as the children, who are like flowers, are made to work for their survival in this world of merciless people, snatching the lovely and enchanting days of childhood from poor children.

Child labor, in fact, is curse which makes innocent children to accept inappropriate work. It’s sorry state of affairs that our country has abolished all kind of child labor, but still the children are in forced or indentured servitude. According to media reports more than 12 million children are involved in child labor in Pakistan.

Realities stand apart. We very often see children working everywhere. They are always around us doing petty things such as cleaning the tables in hotels, working at tyre-puncture workshops and garages, picking rags, laboring at brick kilns, polishing shoes, serving as the servant/ maid etc. It doesn’t end here, many crimes are said to be committed by children under the supervision of Mafias.

Child Labor in Pakistan - Sindh CourierWe ask just one question. When we will be able enough to abolish child labor in real sense so as to send these innocent children to schools? We want to see their childhood as we dream for our children. Sate is just like mother. Hence, stakeholders are demurely requested to look into matter and take strict action against those, who hire children for work. There are laws and rules but implementation is required. Save children and their childhood since they are the fathers of tomorrow and future of country. Save children, save generations. When we observe World Day against Child Labor every year on June 12, but it must not be a cosmetic one just to hoodwink the world.  The Government of Pakistan has ratified ILO core Conventions related to child labor including Minimum Age Convention, 1973 and Worst Forms of Child Labor Convention, 1999 and therefore it must take concrete measures for abolition of Child Labor.
