Hyderabad: The crackdown on illegal petrol pumps in Sindh province has been ordered according to a list provided by the Customs Department, officials told on Saturday.
The administrations of various districts across the province will launch the crackdown from Sunday January 10. In certain districts, the operation will begin from January 11 and will continue for a week.
According to the list, prepared by Customs Department, there are a total of 190 petrol pumps being run illegally in various districts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana Divisions.
Customs Officer Syed Shoaib Hussain Shah said that the crackdown on illegal petrol pumps will take place in phases. In first phase, twenty percent such petrol pumps will be sealed or dismantled.
The Customs Department’s list shows that there are two illegal petrol pumps in Hyderabad Rural subdivision – one each located at Husri and Seri; one in Tando Allahyar, two in Tando Muhammad Khan, and 11 in Badin district; there are seven illegal petrol pumps in Jacobabad, nine in Kashmore, one in Naseerabad subdivision of Qambar-Shahdadkot district; twenty one in Pano Aqil, eight in Rohri and two in Salihpat area; In Khairpur district, there are three illegal pups in Kingri, one each in Gambat, Sobhodero and Nara, three in Kotdiji; In Ghotki there are two illegal pumps, three in Ubauro and one in Khangarh; Six illegal pumps are operating in Mirpurkhas subdivision, seven in Chhachhro, three in Dahli, four in Nagarparkar, 17 in other different parts of Tharparkar, one in Kunri, three in Samaro and fifty pumps in Umerkot.
During first week of crackdown, a total of 38 illegal petrol pumps will be sealed or dismantled.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Fuad Ghaffar Soomro directed the concerned officers to take action against the illegal petrol pumps identified by the Customs Department, from January 10.
Presiding over the meeting regarding the closure of petrol pumps in his office on Saturday, DC Hyderabad said that according to list provided by Pakistan Customs Department, the all illegal petrol pumps will be sealed immediately.
He said that no one is above the law and strict actions will be taken against illegal petrol pumps. He further directed all the Assistant Commissioners of various talukas of district to seal such illegal petrol pumps, wherever situated in the district and compliance report should be submitted to his office accordingly.
Assistant Commissioner Taluka Rural s. Qandeel Fatima Memon, Assistant Commissioner Taluka Latifabad Ishtiaq Ali Mangi, Superintendent of Customs Department Shoaib Khan and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
In Badin district also, the district administration has ordered crackdown on petrol pumps operating illegally without obtaining OGRA license and those violating the terms conditions and regulations. The number of such petrol pumps in entire Badin district is said to be 31. The crackdown will be launched in Badin from January 11.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Badin Ghulam Abbas Memon, the identified 31 pumps are involved in selling the petrol and diesel illegally. “The teams of district administration and Customs Department will jointly inspect the suspected petrol pumps to check the licenses and other documents and also the quality of fuel being sold. The petrol pumps will be sealed in case of incomplete documents and substandard petroleum,” he said.
Sources said that crackdown has already been ordered in Punjab also where around 490 illegal pumps are in operation while in entire country the number exceeds 4000.
