First Spring Night – a poem to pay homage to Great Poet Dylan Thomas by Italian poetess Lidia Chiarelli
Dylan Marlais Thomas (27 October 1914 – 9 November 1953) was a Welsh poet and writer whose works include the poems “Do not go gentle into that good night” and “And death shall have no dominion”; the “play for voices” Under Milk Wood; and stories and radio broadcasts such as A Child’s Christmas in Wales and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog. He became widely popular in his lifetime and remained so after his premature death at the age of 39 in New York City. By then he had acquired a reputation, which he had encouraged, as a “roistering, drunken and doomed poet.
Lidia Chiarelli is one of the Charter Members of Immagine & Poesia, the art literary Movement founded in Torino (Italy) in 2007 with Aeronwy Thomas, Dylan Thomas’ daughter.
She is also installation artist and collagist and Coordinator of #DylanDay in Italy (Turin).
She has become an award-winning poet since 2011 and she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from The First International Poetry Festival of Swansea (U.K.) for her broadside poetry and art contribution. She was awarded with the Cross-Cultural Communications Medal 2020 and six Pushcart Prize (USA) nominations.
Her writing has been translated into different languages and published in Poetry magazines, and on web-sites in many countries.
FIRST SPRING NIGHT
The stars do not float along the void
On this first spring night, Dylan
And the dark leaden sky is heavy with clouds.
Our time is winding down
While your voice slowly fades out

Gogyoshi is a poem written in five lines with a title. Writing a poem in five lines is its only rule. The content of Gogyoshi is free.
