The influential landlords armed with deadly weapons are threatening of dire consequences when the tail growers demand the release of water

Growers of the different areas on Thursday protested against the acute shortage of irrigation water in a Pir Mangio minor.

Growers staged protest demonstration in front of the office of Executive Engineer West, Irrigation Department Khairpur, where the representatives of the growers Majeed Mang, Shakil Tagar, Mazhar Phulpoto and others said that during past three months there was an acute shortage of irrigation water in Pir Mangio minor of the Faiz Wah.

Due to such issue growers of village Mang-Tagar, Jhaloogi, Khatt and others could not cultivate the seasonal crop of cotton, dates, banana  and other crops and even the cattle were dying due to non-availability of water for drinking.

Growers-Demo-Sindh-Courier-1They said that thousands of acres agricultural lands are turning barren and added that villagers of these areas were already passing through a post-flood situation.

They accused the influential people who, with the help of the irrigation staff, have illegally stopped the water from head depriving the tail growers.

The influential farmers armed with deadly weapons are threatening of dire consequences when the tail growers demand the release of water, the protesters blamed.

They said that poor farmers have been forced to spend thousands rupees per acre for their palm, mango, jawar, and other crops by irrigating them with water through machinery and because of this heavy expenditure, they have lost lot of crops after the wheat harvest. Now the fields are empty of new crop planting.

They said that poor farmers have been forced to commit suicides, because of the apathetic attitude of the Irrigation Officials.

They demanded release of the irrigation water, removal of illegal pipes, removal of illegal watercourses and transparency in the rotation of irrigation water.
