In China, Argentina and Brazil rooftop rainwater harvesting is used to provide drinking water for domestic consumption, for livestock, for small irrigation purpose and to replenish groundwater level.
I fail to understand why no one is prepared to follow the solution to flooding and waste of water that was adopted by the people of Meluhha some 6000 years ago when they constructed a gigantic seven meter high platform as a foundation for the city of Moen Jo Daro with hundreds of houses and with hundreds of wells. Why can’t we learn from them and raise the plinth of our houses above the flood level and direct rainwater into wells so that it does not inundate roads, houses and fields and is stored for further use.
Rainwater is a clean source of water often better than groundwater or water from rivers or lakes and is also much cheaper. There are countries where rainwater harvesting is compulsory and legally required by every household. In China, Argentina and Brazil rooftop rainwater harvesting is used to provide drinking water for domestic consumption, for livestock, for small irrigation purpose and to replenish groundwater level. India’s Tamil Nadu and many other states have also been practicing the rainwater harvesting.

Flooding and Food Insecurity
The toll of extreme flooding on Pakistan’s food security is becoming apparent. Large swathes of farmland are under water, crops and stockpiles washed away, homes and livelihoods wiped out.
The government has warned that a food crisis is looming. Rains and deadly floods have damaged rice and cotton crops, along with vegetables like onions and tomatoes. The damage to food supplies will probably boost the nation’s need for imports and increase the pressure on global agricultural markets. So government should help those people whose crops, houses and entire infrastructure are destroyed. Flood victims are in the state of vulnerability.

Global Warming
In modern society global warming is one of the most serious problems causing unrest all over the world. The global warming has increased due to human activity, and has been blamed for a host of recent world-wide issues like drought and various other environmental changes thus counter measures to cope with the aggravating situation are urgent question in the present day. As we have limited resources, we should choose to maximize our resources by comparing the benefits and costs and each policy.
