In a place known as drought-hit and economically deprived, one can merely think of hosting an International TED talks over here but yet again the second edition of TEDx Islamkot was hosted at Benazir Bhutto Complex Mithi, which concluded as successful event on Thursday.
The TEDx Islamkot speakers such a Pakistan’s very own comedian, actor, rapper, script writer and ‘Waderai Ka Beta’ singer Ali Gul Pir brought mind-boggling ideas, inspiration, innovation and energy on stage and left the audience in an awestruck. The jam-packed hall in a heavy weather depicted the interest of local youth towards such platforms.
TEDx is an international community that conducts TED-Style events on local grounds and has a same moto of promoting new ideas. To make these talks special, informative as well as entertaining the organizers have reached to the limits of wild ideas like conducting a TEDx event on Mount Everest, and such as hosting this in deserts of Thar where no one would have imagined of it.
The local speakers including Mr. Qazi Shahid Pervez who talked about the economic transformation of Thar through addressing national energy crisis and through making the right decisions, Mr. Javed Memon who presented his paper on mitigation of livestock migration during drought hit time, Ms. Sabeen Shah who shared her inspiration journey of bringing educational reforms through community engagement programs and Ms. Radha who talked about different challenges faced by women in elections. The event also showcased local artist such as Pancho Pakistan, Manthar Jogge, and a very talented Nazakat Sadiq Faqir.
The participants travelled all over from Pakistan to participate in the event and majority of them have never been to this part of country which is known as misery land and a barren desert but to their surprise the rainy weather and a beauteous green land negated all their preconceived notions about Thar and they are bringing back stories from Thar and a push towards working on this ideas worth sharing!
Mr. Raj Kumar, a TEDx speaker and the licensee for TEDx Islamkot thanked U.S Embassy Pakistan, HUBCO and Engro Foundation for making the event reality through their generous support. He further said, he will be bringing first ever TEDWomen conference in Thar by next year and make it a yearly event.
In addition, Mr. Sanjay Mathrani PR Head mentioned that such platforms are need of the hour and will promote local issues and voices of Thar to the rest of the world.
