Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has approved the accreditation of BE degree program of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering (FAE) of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam on Level-II.

Now the Agricultural Engineers of the University will no longer need to take more courses in foreign countries to prove the quality of their degree, the SAU press release said on Friday.

Pakistan Engineering Council during its 108th meeting has approved the accreditation of BE degree program for the 2K18 batch to level II, under the Outcome Based Education (OBE)system, and in this regard a notification has been issued.

According to the Washington Accord, the B.E. (Agriculture) degree of FAE-SAU has gained global importance, and it will no longer be necessary for the professional engineer of the SAU to take courses there to prove the importance of his degree for a job in foreign countries.

In this regard, the assessment of the faculty was also done by the accreditation team of Pakistan Engineering Council, which was considered satisfactory and the batch of the academic year 2018 has been included in level II.

In another notification, Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has renewed the license of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering as Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB) for conducting various pieces of training, seminars, and workshops for all engineers along with Agricultural Engineers of Sindh Agriculture University to acquire Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points.

In this context, the dean of the faculty, Dr. Altaf Siyal, told that in the past this type of training for professional engineering was conducted in other institutions, but after this certification, we have conducted enough training and now this year we are offering 08 training/seminars having 0.5 to 1.5 CPD points.

Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice Chancellor has said that BE degree of FAE is now of great importance, after which our agricultural engineers will find it easier to get jobs in public and private institutions in the country as well as abroad. (PR)

Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam plans to establish Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory at it Agriculture Engineering Faculty, said Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri on Thursday.

While addressing the closing ceremony of the first 3-day training program on Geographic Information System (GIS) at the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Fateh Marri said that there are vacancies in various fields for GIS in Sindh, which have created opportunities for trained youth.

He said that where the developed countries have made progress in other fields, the latest technology has also been introduced in agriculture to address climate issues, water, and environmental challenges around the world.

“New and innovative instruments have been introduced and the Geographic Information System has made it easier to monitor agricultural activities including geographical, irrigation and climatic conditions,” he said.

Dr. Marri said that to eradicate poverty in Sindh and make the youth skilled, Diploma Courses are being started at Sindh Agricultural University for various technologies including Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Drone Technology, Harmful and Beneficial Agricultural Pests.

Prof. Dr. Altaf Siyal said that through GIS technology water quality and management, soil, crop fertility, monitoring of fields, understanding of issues of agriculture, livestock, poultry sector and better management of livestock farming can be done.

He said that 30 candidates have been trained in the first training workshop to transfer information about this modern system, enabling them to work in their field easily with their skills.

Dr. Naimatullah Leghari, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering said that a training workshop would be organized every month on GIS, in which GIS experts would provide training to the youth of different institutions including teachers and students of the university.

Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, in collaboration with Pakistan Society for Agriculture Engineering (PSAE) and International Agriculture Engineering Manufacturing Company CNHI Services, organized the training course on ‘Tractor Mechanics and Performance’ for graduating agriculture engineers at the Faculty of Agriculture Engineering.

Vice Chancellor, Dr. Fateh Marri, who distributed shields and certificates among the trainees and management at the closing ceremony on Friday, said in his address that the era of traditional farming is now over. “The world has shifted to large machinery for large scale farming and small machinery for small scale farming and gradually the technology will be fully implemented in farming,” he said.

Dr. Fateh Marri said that agricultural machinery has an importance in the world from sowing to harvesting, and for maintaining the standards of agricultural products for export. “The progressive farmers have adopted new technology for spray, water management and use of energy resources during farming and that’s why in developed countries full attention is being paid to the training of farmers through agricultural engineers.”

Engr. Mansoor Rizvi, President of Pakistan Society for Agricultural Engineering (PSAE) and Focal Person of CNHI Services in Pakistan, said that there was a need to promote the importance of agricultural engineering in the country. “The training of agricultural engineers is essential for achieving better agricultural production, maintaining product quality and saving time.”

Dr. Naimatullah Leghari, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, said that through this training, 150 graduates and undergraduates were trained to operate various tractor and tractor-driven agricultural machinery and equipment.

Prof. Dr. Altaf Siyal said that many new tools and monitoring tools have been invented in agricultural engineering, from which information about agriculture, weather, water management, soil, climate and various climatic hazards can be obtained.

Dr. Mehmood Leghari, organizer of the program and chairman of Department of Energy and Environment, representatives of Al Ghazi Tractor Company Syed Muhammad Usman Saleem, Muhammad Salman and others also addressed on the occasion.

PhD Degrees

Two scholars of Sindh Agriculture University were awarded PhD degrees after both the scholars presented copies of their research Thesis to the Vice Chancellor.

On the recommendation of Director Advanced Studies and in the light of their research, Sajid Ali Rao and Rasool Bux kalhoro scholars of Sindh Agriculture University were awarded PhD degree at a brief ceremony held at Vice Chancellor Secretariat.

Sajid Ali Rao, a Scholar of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Faculty of Crop Production, conducted the research on “Quantitative genetic analysis of rapeseed under water stress conditions”, under the supervision of Dr. Abdul Wahid Baloch, while his co-supervisors were Dr. Siraj Ahmed Channa and Dr. Liaquat Ali Bhutto.

Rasool Bux Kalhoro, a Scholar in the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Crop Production, conducted research on “Production Enhancement of Soybean under integrated Agronomic practices”, his supervisors were Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Leghari and Co-Supervisors were Dr. Ghulam Hyder Jamro and Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Keerio.
