WHO Country Head Dr. Palitha hands over keys of 2 ambulances and 3 bikes to DHO Tharparkar

MPA Qasim Siraj Soomro distributes appointment orders of Lady Health Workers

Mithi: Dr. Palitha Mahipala, the Head of World Health Organization Mission in Pakistan, who visited health centers in different villages of Desert District Tharparkar, handed over two new ambulances and three motorcycles to the District Health Officer.

DHO Tharparkar Dr. Gordhandas received the keys of ambulances and bikes along with certain medicines at a simple ceremony held at DHO office in Mithi.  DHO briefed the WHO official about the healthcare facilities available in his district.

Dr. Palitha while talking to media on this occasion, told that WHO is assisting the provincial health department to improve healthcare facilities in Tharparkar, and soon a nutrition program would be launched at three more health centers.

He said that the polio workers, who were sacked earlier, would be reinstated soon. “We have held dialogues with them.”

WHO official commended Sindh government for its best performance in controlling the coronavirus cases. “Pakistan had worked in a better way to control Covid-19 and for that it’s ranked 7^th among the countries who had successfully countered the pandemic.”

MPA Qasim Siraj Soomro told the media persons that he would soon get ten more ambulances from health department for Tharparkar district while local people would be recruited at the dispensaries.

To a question about the shortage of anti-rabies vaccine, Soomro said that anti-rabies vaccine is short because it is imported from other countries.

On this occasion, the appointment orders of 454 Lady Health Workers were also distributed.

Former Chairman, District Council Ghulam Haider Samejo, former MPA Dost Muhammad Rahmoon, Susheel Malani and others were also present.

Earlier, accompanied by Qasim Siraj Soomro, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Department, Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Muhammad Nawaz Soho and other officers, the WHO official inspected Mother & Child Health Center Malihar, a Mobile Medical Camp at Nawab Otho village and different wards of Civil Hospital Mithi.
