There is a silent war being waged against Sindh’s emerging professional class — and it’s time we name it, face it, and fight it.

Dr. Mohammad Mataro Hingorjo | Ireland

In the past, Sindhi people from middle and lower-middle class backgrounds lived under double oppression. In rural Sindh, they were at the mercy of powerful feudal lords and criminal gangs. In urban Sindh, they faced threats from racist, violent militant groups. On top of that, they endured the suffocation of military dictatorships. It was a fight for survival — and many chose to resist.

They joined nationalist, democratic, and liberal movements. They protested. They were jailed. Some were tortured. Others were forced into silence. Many became disillusioned after seeing those movements either fail or fall into the hands of corrupt leadership. But they did not give up on their dreams for Sindh’s future. Instead of weapons, they picked up schoolbooks — for their children.

Those same working-class and middle-class families invested everything they had to educate their children. Today, their sons and daughters are doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, journalists, and scientists— thriving not just in Sindh but around the world. This new class is educated, confident, and independent. And this is exactly what threatens the tribal and feudal system that has ruled Sindh for generations.

Now, these professionals are being targeted — not just figuratively, but literally.

We saw the horrifying murder of Professor Dr. Ajmal Sawand, a brilliant academic, shot dead in a senseless tribal feud. We mourn Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar, Jan Muhammad Mehar, Nasrullah Gadani — each a voice of Sindh, silenced either by bullets or conspiracy. And now, we are seeing what appears to be a targeted attempt to falsely accuse Dr. Dhani Bakhsh Bhangwar, a respected dentist and social activist, in a murder case. He and his family — known for their decency and public service — are being dragged into a tribal conflict he publicly denies any part in.

This pattern is no coincidence.

What we are witnessing is a planned backlash against the rise of Sindh’s educated class. Feudal lords and tribal chiefs, unable to accept losing their grip on society, are trying to drag our brightest minds into violence, conflict, or legal traps. Their aim is to break the backbone of a new, self-made Sindh.

This must stop — now.

We call on Sindh’s educated, conscious citizens: academics, professionals, writers, students, civil society — to connect the dots. These are not isolated incidents. This is a systemic attempt to crush progress and silence the new Sindhi voice.

We must speak out, support the victims and their families, and demand protection for our doctors, teachers, journalists, and engineers. The future of Sindh lies in their hands — not in the hands of tribal violence, political puppets, or outdated systems of control.

Let this be a turning point. Let us defend our people, our progress, and our future.

Moscow

Authorities in Tajikistan have noted a significant outflow of Tajik labor migrants from Russia following the terrorist attack at the “Crocus City Hall” in the Moscow region. Deputy Minister of Labor of Tajikistan, Shakhnoza Nodiri, stated this, Eurasian Today reports.

According to her, more people are currently arriving in Tajikistan than leaving. She noted that the outflow is a temporary phenomenon and will cease.

Nodiri also added that “at the household level,” instances of persecution of Tajikistan citizens are also being recorded.

The official also revealed that the country’s authorities have intensified explanatory work with labor migrants to prevent their involvement in extremist communities.

The explanatory work has been reinforced through the structures of the migration service, which are represented in all regions of the country, explained the deputy minister of labor.

Earlier, Nodiri announced the opening of six vocational training centers in Tajikistan.

The outflow from Russia began to be observed after the call-up of conscripts to the CSTO, and after the terrorist attack in Moscow involving citizens of Tajikistan, it increased even more. Residents of the republic began to refuse trips to Russia en masse due to raids on migrants.

Deputy Sergey Mironov proposed introducing a visa regime for Central Asian countries. At the same time, the State Duma called for curbing the incitement of Islamophobia and Tajikophobia. The head of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, also stood up for neighbors, emphasizing that terrorists have no nationality.

Iran’s 5 military advisers serving for the IRGC mission in Syria were martyred along with several Syrian forces in an Israeli attack on a residential building in Damascus.

Tehran

Iran condemned in the strongest terms the killing of five military advisers of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in an Israeli attack on Syria, saying it reserves the right to respond to the “organized terrorism” of the Israeli government.

“In addition to the political, legal and international application of these aggressive and criminal measures, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to respond to the organized terrorism of the false Zionist regime at the appropriate time and place”said the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanani.

Israel assassinated Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) military officials in a missile strike on Damascus early on January 20.
IRGC confirms the martyrdom of advisors in the Israel attack on #Syria. pic.twitter.com/Jec02P43QK

— Tehran Times (@TehranTimes79) January 20, 2024

The spokesman stated that the repeated violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and the escalation of aggressive and provocative attacks against various objectives in Syria by the Israeli infanticide regime shows the impotence and clumsiness of this regime in the battleground and in the fight against resistance forces in Gaza and the West Bank, so it seeks to spread instability and insecurity in the region.

“Certainly, the continuation of such terrorist and criminal acts, which are indicative of the growing failure and defeats of the illegitimate Zionist regime in achieving its malicious objectives and the depth of its frustration with the fighters of the Resistance Front, will not go unanswered by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi as well.

In this regard, both called on governments, regional and international organizations, including the United Nations Security Council, to have a clear and decisive reaction to the aggressive, terrorist and criminal actions of the Zionist regime.

Five military advisers serving for the IRGC mission in Syria were martyred along with several Syrian forces in an Israeli attack on a three-story residential building in the Mezza neighborhood of Damascus, which houses several diplomatic missions.

Hojjatollah Omidvar, Ali Aqazadeh, Hossein Mohammadi, Saeed Karimi and Mohammad Amin Samadi are the so-called martyrs’ advisers in Syria.
