Spokesperson of the Sindh Government and Advisor for Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated on Thursday the Lyari River Urban Forest along Lyari Expressway at Maripur Interchange.

13000 saplings of 35 different species have been planted in Lyari Urban Forest.

The Lyari River Urban Forest plantation was organized in collaboration with Nazaft Organization Dawoodi Bohra Community and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Murtaza Wahab said on this occasion that urban forest is the most important need of the hour, and its establishment is very necessary to eliminate environmental pollution. He further said that people from other communities and social sectors, including the business community, should pay attention to this because planting trees is the best charity.

He said that this tree trail will be made from Sohrab Goth to Maripur. “We are also working on the Malir Expressway.”

“Today friends of civil society are present at the Lyari River, they promised to plant 15,000 saplings. They came to us, so we decided to support them.”

The saplings of different types have been planted and testing was done before regular planting. The entire belt from Sohrab Goth to Maripur Road will be planted so that the people of Karachi can breathe fresh air.

“In the next four to five years, if you all support us, we will establish more than a hundred urban forests and plant millions of trees.  May it be established in the city and other parts of the country” Wahab concluded. (PR)

The three-day Bohra food festival ended with its entire climate on Sunday, as thousands of citizens attended the event appreciating the arrangements and expressed their wishes to be held every year.

For the first time, a three-day Bohra food festival was held in Karachi by the Bohra community, which housed more than 100 stalls of delicious dishes including the traditional cuisine of the Bohra community.

All three days of the festival, a large number of citizens visited and enjoyed the dishes. And all the stalls were filled with a rush of citizens.

A stallholder Wajid Ansari said that citizens gave full response and above our expectations.

Another stallholder Talha Bohri said that all three days food items at his stall ended ahead of time and they had to make arrangements on an emergency basis.

The most interesting item in the Bohra food festival was the traditional Bohra dish platter. The whole family sits around a platter and enjoy different meals.

The organizers said that through Thaal, they have sent a message to strengthen the family system in today’s age. The emotions of being together through the platter and joining each other’s suffering and pain are cultivated.

In addition, cooking competitions were held at the festival to build self-confidence within children, in which children made their favorite cakes and meals and also decorated meals. A large number of swings were also installed for children, in which the zip line continued to be the center of attention of children and a rush of children.

Similarly, various competitions were held including baking bread to raise awareness of household responsibilities among men.

At the food festival, special support was provided to women who run kitchens from their homes and supply customers by preparing various meals in their homes. Such women were provided exclusively with stalls free of charge.

“We have sent a message of peace, love and tolerance to citizens through the Food Festival,” the organizers said adding that they also tried to raise self-esteem in children and awareness of household responsibilities in men.

The zipline and children’s cooking competition have been loved by citizens very much. “We will try to start them on a regular basis. Next year we will hold the festival with more refined arrangements,” they said.

The Bohra food festival is highly appreciated by citizens. In this regard, citizens said that the Bohra food festival is a pleasant addition to the traditions of Karachi. “Through it we have the opportunity not only to understand the Bohra community, but also to increase interpersonal relations. There is a lot here, including various types of food, sports arrangements and we are having a lot of fun.” The citizens hoped that the Bohra food festival would continue to be held every year.

It should be noted that the entry fee of the Bohra food festival is kept at Rs.100, which will be used for charitable purposes. (PR)

For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the Bohra Community has organized the Bohra Food Festival in Karachi, which received a great response from the community people and other citizens on its first day, when it was inaugurated on Friday.

A large number of people – male, female and children attended the three- day festival organized in Nazimabad area of Karachi.

More than one hundred food stalls were setup at the festival including Bohra traditional foods and other delicious and popular foods. The specialty of the festival was Bohra Thaal which is served to a family to eat together eight different dishes. The organizers of the festival have introduced online booking system for the Bohra Thaal.

Moreover, a restaurant named as ‘Cooking Education’ has been established where the children can cook dishes of their own choice. The children are also taking part in cooking competitions here. Cooking competitions between men are also held at the festival. On first day of the competition between men, they prepared Chapatis. According to organizers, such competition was aimed to develop awareness among the male members of family so that the burden over the women could be lessened. The men, trained in cooking could help their women at home.

The organizers told the media that festival was aimed at introducing the Bohra culture and traditions to the citizens and bringing different sections of society closer to each other. “Organizing the Bohra Food Festival was the best option to achieve the goal of creating harmony among the various segments of society,” they said.

Besides food stalls, various sports activities for the women and children have been arranged at the festival. The citizens hoped that Bohra Food Festival would be organized every year.
