According to official reports, a total of 1.14 million ethnic Kazakhs have returned to Kazakhstan since 1991

12,325 ethnic Kazakhs returned to their historical homeland in Kazakhstan in 2024, and received kandas (fellow tribesman) status, announced the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Kazakhstan (MLSP), reports Zakon.kz.

According to the agency, a total of 1.14 million ethnic Kazakhs have returned to Kazakhstan since 1991.

“Of the kandas who arrived in Kazakhstan since the beginning of this year, 45.6% are from China, 39.2% from Uzbekistan, 5.5% from Turkmenistan, 5.4% from Mongolia, 3.1% from Russia, and 1.2% from other countries,” the MLSP of Kazakhstan listed.

As of September 1, 2024, 58.2% of ethnic returnees are of working age, 32.4% are minors, and 9.4% are pensioners.

Among working-age kandas, 17.8% have higher education, 24.2% have specialized secondary education, 54.4% have general secondary education, and 3.6% have no education.

The ethnic Kazakhs who arrived have settled in various regions of the republic. At the same time, the following labor-deficient regions have been designated for the resettlement of kandas: Akmola, Abay, Kostanay, Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan regions.
