Sushant Thapa is a Nepalese poet from Biratnagar-13, Nepal who holds a Master’s degree in English literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He has published five books of English poetry namely: The Poetic Burden and Other Poems (New Delhi, 2020), Abstraction and Other Poems (UK, 2021), Minutes of Merit (Kolkata, 2021), and Love’s Cradle (New York, USA and Senegal, Africa, 2023), Spontaneity: A New Name of Rhyme (New Delhi, 2023). Poems written by Sushant have been published in several countries.

Kill Me with Immortality

Saving the date

I have moved on.

The smile has dawned on me.

I have bidden goodbye

To the sorrowful tears

That took away

My precious innocence.

Freely the cool evening breeze

Descends down

And covers my eyes

With a shawl;

I move on.

The mind is

A house of concepts,

This spontaneity

Takes me to the inner city,

That the mind has become.

The curtain of nature

Delights me,

When I lift the secret of it

To see the waking sun.

I flow freely

In the lap of Himalayan chills.

Oh, kill me with immortality;

I am so happy.

Rajendra Ojha, an eminent poet from Kathmandu, Nepal, the Himalayan country, shares his poem

Rajendra Ojha (Nayan) is a Nepalese poet, social researcher, social worker, and EU-certified trainer. He also served as a citizen diplomat for three months under the ‘Ministry of Population and Environment’ in 2018 in Switzerland for the diplomatic program of the Minamata Convention, which was held in Geneva. Poems and philosophical writings of Rajendra Ojha have been published in various national as well as international literary journals from Nepal, U.S.A., India, China, Russia, Spain, Myanmar, Pakistan and United Kingdom in both Nepalese and English. He has also published two anthologies, ‘Through the World’ (a collection of experimental poems) and ‘Words of Tiger’ (a collection of philosophical and psychological poems), in 2011 and 2019, respectively. He has been honored by two major prestigious awards named ‘Asia’s Outstanding Internship Solution Provider Award 2020/21’ and ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Television Award 2023’ respectively for his work as a ‘Social Researcher’ as well as a ‘Social Worker’, respectively, in 2021 and 2023.

Prudent Judgement

Right from the beginning of humanity,

This world seems to be moving towards unfair judgment;

Where— the books are still judged by their well-managed cover,

And alligators are forced to live the lives of crocodiles.

When Alligator forgets its charismatic nature,

And go to live overseas, attracted to the mirage reality,

It can never achieve soul liberation.

As you may be the crocodile dealing with an alligator,

For this, I say never to impose our path on them.

When one is vulnerable to losing its environment,

Due to the intrusion of centralized paths by others,

It is certain to slip uncontrollably someday.

No matter how well-furnished the path seems to be,

That would be like the mermaid.

So long as the psychology we encounter is exotic,

Every verdict may not entirely be prudent.

Thus, there is always a place for the ‘Psychological Renaissance’.

Before that, the personalized social judgment we practice;

Most have a life-taking encounter with the ‘Mesozoic Era’.

Hailing from Biratnagar, Nepal, Sushant Thapa holds a Master’s degree in English literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. Recently he recited his poem “The Poetic Burden” in Kalinga Literary Festival, Kathmandu, Nepal. He was recently awarded with Indology Best Poet Award 2022 from West Bengal, India for his debut poetry book “The Poetic Burden and Other Poems.”

Being a Naturalist

It is hard

To be a naturalist, 

Even when your mind

Is a rooted Eucalyptus.

A mind of wonder

Is hard to grow,

Below the clouds of the

Busy city.

You feel the breath

Of a rabbit

So close

To your ears that listen

To the consolation

Of whistling wind.

A television casts

A natural show, 

We clap for the TV show,

But open the gates

Of nature late.

Your suburban tranquility

Tries to hide,

In the concrete jungle.

You only enjoy your horse ride

With the peace, making a pace

Along with every rhythm

Of horse’s journey.

Seeking woman existence

Being warrior on earth.

Seeking freedom of feather

Ignoring the cage of restriction.

The woman as I braver

Fighting alone in battlefield

Seeking justice from home to outside.

Woman is existence saver.

Woman as shining pearl

The survivor of earth

Glorious beauty in earth.

The kind hearted being.

The woman perfume of moral dignity

Educated hearts everywhere

Sublimity is within her mind and heart.

Cosmic Reflection

Every night when I gaze up at the stars,

I have the feeling that the time is drawing nearer to me—

When I, magnificently, turn into one of them.

Observing the stars from Earth is incredible, isn’t it?

However, the notion of becoming one, though,

Might not be viewed as fantastic by everyone.

There are trillions of stars in the vast cosmos,

And maybe some of them hide intelligent beings—

That surpass us in mental heroism.

These beings, ‘capable of instantly understanding our trajectory-

But remain indifferent,

Some even with null fondness for any earthlings.

We may be gradually turning into the star; or maybe not,

It’s all about our logic-centric hypothetical mindset.

But for now, we are yet to meet those superior intelligence,

After all, until now, it’s just a cosmic reflection of our mind.

No One’s Fault

In future,

By mistake or coincidence-

If we meet, don’t stare at me again

Since, I may be flirting at the other beloved.

Don’t think,

I am indifferent to you

I am as constant as we met earlier

Only the change is, of a person in our lives.

Right now,

The days are good to you-

And they are likewise to me as well

By chance, if we meet don’t regret for glorious past.
