Workers and leaders of Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek, including women and children, observed token hunger strike in Hyderabad

Hyderabad

Awami Tehreek, District Hyderabad, organized token hunger strike in front of the Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday to register protest against corporate farming, canals, dams, lawlessness, and the exploitation of Sindh’s resources.

Slogans were chanted against the looting of Sindh’s water and land grabbing. A number of women and children also participated in the protest.

The hunger strike was led by central leader of Sindhyani Tehreek Husna Rahujo, Subhani Dahri, Awami Tehreek leader Jam Tamachi, Noor Nabi Palijo, District President Sarmad Rajpar, Secretary Ashok Kumar, Aslam Parvez Umrani, Haji Khan Samoon, Abdul Hai Bhutto, Saleem Budh, Saima Arbab, Faiza Soomro, Ali Raza Jalbani, Irfan Lashari, Ahmed Ali Talpur and others. Comrade Iqbal of the Communist Party of Pakistan also participated.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that international media reports claim that a deal has been struck to hand over Sindh’s oil and gas reserves to the U.S. “We ask the Bilawal-Shahbaz coalition government: why are decisions about Sindh’s resources being made in Islamabad and the U.S.? Who made this secret deal with America, and under what law?”

Sindh’s natural resources belong to the Sindhi nation. The reserves of oil and gas in Sindh are being secretly handed over to the United States. This secret deal with the U.S. regarding resources is a breach of the Constitution. Those who broke the Constitution must be prosecuted under Article 6.

The leaders further said that on one hand, lands in Sindh are being illegally occupied, the Indus River is being dried up, and on the other hand, a reign of bandits has been imposed in Sindh. Ransom notes are being sent out, and those who do not pay are being killed, with the bandits enjoying government protection. The attack on Dr. Kripal Das in Sukkur for ransom is strongly condemned.

They demanded that the bandits, extortionists, and their tribal feudal backers be arrested and severely punished. They added that all new dam and canal projects on the Indus River should be stopped immediately, Sindh must be given its due share of water, and lands allotted to corporate farming companies should be withdrawn and distributed among the local landless peasants. (PR)

He said that 33 train services were suspended at flood time on ML-1 railway track from Karachi to Punjab and those all were resumed since last three months but on ML-2 route train service still remains suspended.

He said that as the train service has not been resumed the people different districts of Sindh are compelled to pay fares of buses and passenger coaches. The laborers working in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and other cities cannot go for work due to high fares of buses and coaches.

Mithi, Tharparkar

The Young Paramedical Association (YPA) announced here solidarity with some four dozen lower-grade employees of Sindh Health Department, agitating for release of salaries, unpaid since 2017, who continued their hunger strike on 21st day on Monday.

The protesting employees have setup their camp outside local press club and are observing hunger strike on daily basis. The provincial level office bearers of Paramedical Association, who visited the camp, warned of launching province-wide movement if the government failed to resolve the issue of agitating employees.

YPA chairperson Faiza Khan, Abdul Jabbar Kunbhar, Ghaffar Rind, Ghulam Shabbir Leghari and other paramedic leaders while talking to newsmen said that the paramedics and other employees are frontline soldiers of health department who had been performing duties during emergency situations. They urged the health department authorities to release salaries to the employees or in the first phase they will spread the scope of agitation to entire district of Tharparkar and later across the province and finally sit-in would be staged in front of Chief Minister’s House in Karachi.

“We will continue protest and hunger strike unto justice,” Fahim Junejo, Ali Nawaz Rahmoon, Loang Samo, Alji Bheel and other protesters also told newsmen.

“We have been performing regular duties since appointment and even performed during the emergency situations like Covid-19, Anti-Polio Campaigns etc. but the department has stopped their salaries,” they told.

According to protesting employees, they were appointed in the year 2015 but later the department cancelled their fitness certificates, which they challenged in Sindh High Court. The court had ordered Sindh Health Department for reinstatement of employees in 2017. Following the court order, the department allowed 49 employees to rejoin but didn’t release salaries since then. The Chief Minister had also issued directives to the health department for releasing salaries of 49 employees in 2019 but the authorities of health department didn’t pay heed to SHC orders and the Chief Minister’s directives.

The protesting employees told that they have been passing through hard times depending on loans but now their families are at the verge of starvation.

They appealed to the Sindh High Court and the Chief Minister to take notice and resolve their issue.

The protesting employees include dispensers, gardeners, watchmen etc.

Abu Hawash has spent eight years in Israeli jails “for resisting the occupation,” including 52 months in “administrative detention.”

Over 60 political prisoners have gone on hunger strike during 2021 in protest against both the administrative detention and the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory.

With his health seriously deteriorating, a Palestinian prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash spent 135 days on Wednesday on a hunger strike in protest against the administrative detention imposed by the Israeli authorities without specifying charges against him or allowing him to have a proper trial.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported that Abu Hawash was transferred to a hospital due to his critical condition, as he has already lost speech and vision. On Tuesday, the Palestinian prisoner was visited by his two older children, who saw him for the first time since the hunger strike began. Israel, however, denied his wife permission to visit him.

On Monday, the Israeli authorities decided to “freeze” Abu Hawash’s administrative detention to transfer him to a hospital. This decision, however, does not imply the cancellation of his arbitrary detention, as it only means that the prison authorities and the Intelligence Service (Shin Bet) will no longer be responsible for the life of the detainee.

Two weeks ago, an Israeli court denied the petition to release the 40-year-old activist, who is the father of five children. On October 27, 2020, he received three consecutive administrative detention orders each for six months.

Abu Hawash has spent eight years in Israeli jails “for resisting the occupation,” including 52 months in “administrative detention.”

a legal figure that allows Israel to detain Palestinians without charge for renewed periods based on “evidence” that remains unknown for the defendant’s attorneys. Although this legal aberration has been repeatedly condemned by the international community, the Israeli state continues to apply it arbitrarily and abusively.
