Poem

The first primrose

A little girl drawing her pink dream

On a white sheet of paper

In a distant country

She listens to the songs of the children of my country

With her hand she greets me gently.

A friend who is waiting for my phone call to feel closer to us

The fruit candies eaten hidden under Grandma’s balcony

Yeah I know it’s been a long time out.

Our eyes laughed silently.

Now they dry tears always in silence

But our world of values remains standing.

The cat sleeps in the same position as yesterday and perhaps tomorrow as well.

The switch is still broken.

I won’t be able to see you smiling tonight either.

In front of a fireplace you burn the memories of the heart and the fire stays on.

My world is small and everyone lives in the same country.

Five Poems by Antonia Petrone

Antonia Petrone, an American Italian poetess writes with pen name Tonia Poetry. Her country of origin is Yonkers New York – USA- Currently living in Italy. She speaks and writes in English and Italian.

Antonia was born and lived in Yonkers, New York till 1979, when she moved to Italy with her family to start anew. Learning a new language and living in a new cultural environment was not easy at 14.

“Italy is an extremely beautiful country and I fell in love with it. I started writing poems from a young age in English and for a long period I never published my works. I loved to read Emily Dickinson and her great love for nature. I treasured Walt Whitman and his love for his mother country, America, my own,” she says.

“Then in Italy I began to read and to love poets like Giacomo Leopardi, learning my first Italian poem by heart, “L’infinito”, probably my favorite. As well as Cesare Pavese, so nostalgic like me,” she told Sindh Courier.

“I began writing poems in Italian as well and in 2015, I decided to participate in a Poetry Contest with a poem I had written for my father, who passed away in 2012, called “Tu e il Mare” (You and the Sea). We both loved the see and I loved him so.”

She published in a couple of Poetry editions with other poets in Italian. With Pagine in Rome: Tracce (2015), Voci Versate (2018) e M’illumino d’immenso (2019). In March 2020 she published my first Kindle collection: Poetry Corner di Antonia Petrone. In December, “Le Poesie di Antonia” her first collection of all her poems till date in Italian with pictures.

“I am now finally preparing for publication in English: “Antonia’s Poetry Garden” a collection of other poems thought and written in English till date that will also contain many of my Italian poems translated in English,” she said.

Antonia organizes events of Poetry and Art in her home town, Rivoli. She is a Literary Judge for UWPP (Unity World Peace Poets) and also works in Italy as a Translator and Interpreter. She also translates books from Italian to English.

Having a very nice voice in English, Antonia also recites poetry in Italy and at times post these on YouTube and Facebook.

She wants reaching out to this wonderful world of poetry more and more.

Antonia Petrone can be accessed at E-Mail: antoniap.elt@gmail.com

Here are five of her poems that are part of her collection.

Champagne love

All of a sudden

You have that special

Someone in your mind,

Your heart is already full

And feels a blissful joy

The mind is unaware,

But the heart safely preserves.

At the very moment

The mind realizes

What the heart is feeling

It sneaks behind and eyes,

Till the heart overflows

Like a champagne flute.

Only then the mind

Can reveal its delight

And toast with the heart.

Beauty in the wild

Breathe pure nature in the wild

Touch the warmth of the earth

Listen carefully to the birds chanting

Taste the sweetness once ripe

Draw a picture in your mind

Set your colors free, let go

Dream till you see it all flourish

Bloom and let the beauty out

Yellow Rose

Shall I admire you from afar?

Shall I not bleed from your thorns?

Nor be caressed by your soft petals?

Only to capture your beauty while you grow

Tall and slender in the midst of nature

Shall I not touch you to not suffer?

The pains of watching you wither and fall

Yes, I shall let you be, so you can cast

Your bright and true colors upon me

A delight for the eyes to see

Venice the Queen

Still high you stand

Queen of the sea

Dominating princess

Of thy waters

Serenissima,

When your moist is calm

You let us taste your beauty,

Your sublime and pure love

When pain moves within you

Your spirit goes wild,

Overflowing lust

You became refuge for lovers

That beseeched your company.

Many times

You defended your body

From those trying

To conquer your beauty,

And put you to your knees.

And now you stand

On your rightful throne,

Surrounded by the lovers

And artists of the world

Those only want to touch you

Depict you and love you.

Here are her five poems in Italy with English translation.

Gerani alla finestra

Incombe

Lo sfarfallio di morte

Mentre scorre la vita alla finestra…

Sul davanzale

Ancora un geranio.

Resiste alle intemperie

Il bucaneve su in montagna

E si domanda l’aquila

Perché il cielo è cosi azzurro

Pur piovendo lacrime da giorni

Su chi scruta le nubi

Col naso all’insù.

Creatura della fede

O delirio collettivo

Una madre pietosa

Ha fatto capolino

Per trascinare in salvo

I suoi bambini

Sia essa scienza, humanitas

O chissà…

Noi gerani alla finestra

Proviamo a trarre linfa da questo

Lungo inverno.

La primavera è giunta

Smarrendo i suoi

Colori!

Geranium at the windows

Incumbent was

The flicker of death

While life flew through the window

On the windowsill

One more geranium

Withstands to bad weather

The snowdrop high in the mountains

And the eagle wonders

Why the sky is so blue

Despite it was raining tears for days

On who scrutinizes the clouds

With upturned nose

Creature of faith

Or collective delusion

A pitiful mother

Peeped

To drag safely

Her children

Be it science, humanitas

Or who knows…

We geraniums at the window

Let’s try to draw sap from this

Long winter

Spring has come

Losing his

Colors!

Rassegnazione a km 0

Si spuntò il corno

Che mi donasti.

L’ho ritrovato

Nel fondo di una borsa

Mi porterà fortuna?

Dimmi…

Ritornerai?

Rassegnazione a km 0

Querelle inutile tra cuore e ragione.

Il tempo è trascorso invano,

Nulla è cambiato.

Neanche il dolore

Ti ha ricordato il mio nome,

O forse semplicemente

Lo hai depennato

Sostituito

Profanato.

Verrà il giorno dei ricordi

Ritroverai quel corno gemello

Saranno vuote le tue mani

Che un tempo stringevano le mie.

Assignment to km 0

The horn

That you gave me,

Blew!

I found it

In the bottom of a bag

Will it bring me luck?

Tell me…

Will you come back?

Assignment to km 0

Useless quarrels between heart and reason

Time has passed in vain,

Nothing has changed.

Not even pain

Reminded you of my name,

Or maybe simply

You crossed it out

You replaced it

You profaned it.

The day of memories will come

You will find that twin horn

And your hands

That once held mine

They will be empty.

In punta di tastiera

Mi trattengo in punta di tastiera

Perché un segreto conta più

Di un racconto

Perché a svelarsi ci si rimette sempre

E attendo inutilmente un cenno,

Un sorriso, un fluido inchiostro

Che prometta un domani.

Siamo radunati dietro le quinte

Di una piazza vuota

Popolata di comparse inanimate

Che osservano senza stupore.

Guardami, scosta le tende.

At the keyboard tip

I stick to the keyboard

Because a secret matters more than a tale

Because we always loose something

To reveal ourselves

And I needlessly await a nod

A smile, a fluid ink

That promises us a tomorrow.

We are gathered behind the scenes

Of an empty square

Populated with inanimate ghosts

Who observe us without amazement!

Look at me, move the curtains aside.

Bianco vessillo

Abbarbicata al cielo

Sventolo bianco vessillo

Per salutare chi ha intrapreso

Un viaggio senza ritorno.

Fioriti i gerani

Mi dicono che la vita prosegue,

Che devo ignorare la paura

Se voglio restare.

Attendo l’azzurro del giorno

Per ricominciare…

White flag

Climbing to the sky

I wave a white banner

To greet those who have undertaken

A single journey

Geraniums bloomed;

They tell me that life goes on,

That I have to ignore the fear

If I want to stay

I’m looking for the blue of the day

In order to start a new life…Interruzione pagina

Mi sono persa dietro la paura

Mi sono persa dietro la paura,

Non una pietra miliare

A darmi il senso di marcia.

Ho atteso al crocevia

Che tu tornassi indietro

Candidamente

Coi tuoi dubbi

E i tuoi perché.

Guardavo ai lati

Della carreggiata

In cerca di un viottolo

O una scorciatoia.

Nulla mi ha condotto

Al traguardo,

Nessuno mi ha preso

Per mano,

Ogni mio passo

Segue le regole

Sel buon cammino,

Accordarsi

Agli altri

Come crine al violino

E attendere la vibrazione

Giusta, il suono di un battito

Che mi riporti a casa!

I got lost in fear

I got lost in fear

Not a milestone

To show me the direction of travel

I waited at the crossroads

That you go back

Candidly

With your doubts

And your reasons

I looked to the sides

Of the roadway

Looking for a path

Or a shortcut

Nothing led me

At the arrival point,

Nobody took me

By hand,

Each of my steps

Follow the rules

Of the good way,

Make arrangements

To the others

Like violin’s horsehair

And wait for the right vibration

The sound of a beat

That will take me home.

Beautiful Dreams Fall From The Sky

I see his face looking out the window

With a suspended soul

Between a sky and a garden

That awaits the ancient splendor

Observes

The pace of every step

Bitter and sweet

From there, across the rough road

Feels

Still the sea

That rises and falls

With its big waves

That woman doesn’t know

That the most beautiful dreams

Fall from the sky.

She doesn’t know the whole thing

It dips in the early morning light.

That woman gets carried away in the waves

Without ever leaving her hand

That woman doesn’t know…

To be the love!
