During an encounter between the Ghotki Police and the arms smugglers in the wee hours of Saturday in the limits of Police station Belo Mirpur, it was found that in-service and retired cops of Khyber Pakhtunkhaw province were involved in supplying sophisticated automatic weapons to the bandits in Sindh.

During the encounter, the Ghotki Police shot dead an arms smuggler and arrested alive two others who are members of inter-provincial arms smuggling gang. A huge consignment of arms was also seized.

According to police reports, SHO Police Station Belo Mirpur Abdul Jabbar Pathan signaled to stop a suspicious GLI car during patrolling but the inmates of car instead of stopping, opened fires at the police which were retaliated. During the exchange of firing, one suspect was killed while police arrested two others when they were attempting to escape.

Police later shifted dead and injured to hospital, where the dead was identified as Mukhtiar Ali S/o Gohar Zaman.

DIG Sukkur Javed Sonharo Jiskani and SSP Sukkur Sanghaar Malik who holds additional charge of SSP Ghotki, said that killed  Mukhtiar Ali S/o Gohar Zaman was resident of Nawa Kali Qamarabad Police Station Rustam District Mardan of KPK.

He was the inter-provincial arms smuggler doing job as Sub-Inspector in KPK Police and nowadays was posted in National Police Academy Islamabad on deputation. The Service Card of dead shows that he was from Elite Police of KPK.

They said that during the search of Car, police recovered 05 Kalashnikovs, 02 Repeaters, 04 Pistols, 600 Rounds and explosive ammunition and car.

They said that during verification of criminal record, it has been found that dead cop was wanted to Mardan Police in killings and smuggling of ammunition. The arms were Russian-made and were being transported from KPK to Kashmore.

They said that interrogation was underway from the arrested arms smugglers Qasim Khan S/o Shabir Ahmed Yousifzai and retired policeman of KPK Janat Gul Pathan S/o Sahib Khan Yousifzai Pathan, residents of District Mardan.

A case has been registered against the dead and arrested smugglers under the Crime No. 32/2023 Section 324, 353 and 7ATA with Sindh Arms Act at Belo Mirpur police station.

DIG Sukkur Javed Sonharo Jiskani lauded the SSP Sanghaar Malik and SHO Belo Mirpur Abdul Jabbar Pathan and his team and announced appreciation certificates.
