The operatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan have detained suspects involved in organizing mass riots, planning a violent seizure of power. Among them are foreign nationals. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.

“Employees of the Main Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received information about the preparation of mass riots and the destabilization of the socio-political situation by a certain group. According to the obtained data, the organized group was created with the aim of organizing mass riots and a violent seizure of power. Roles were assigned to each participant (organizers, accomplices, financiers, executors),” the statement says.

The organizers planned to use the occasion of sporting events in the suburbs of Bishkek to “call for acts of violence, make anti-constitutional appeals, destabilize the situation for a subsequent violent seizure of power on the day of the local council elections on November 17, 2024,” the report says.

Seven members of the group have been detained, three of whom are foreign nationals. It is noted that two of the foreigners have combat experience in a foreign country.

Weapons and ammunition, drugs, quadcopters, as well as “1000 bottles of vodka to intoxicate the crowd, 2000 bottles of mineral water, 1 ton of rice, 1 horse for slaughter, and ingredients for cooking pilaf for the participants of the mass riots” were confiscated from the detainees.

The detainees are facing charges under articles 278 (“Organization of mass riots”), 261 (“Creation of an organized group”), 263 (“Financing of an organized group”), 326 (“Attempted violent seizure of power”), and 256 (“Participation of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic in armed conflicts or military actions on the territory of a foreign country”) of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan.

All of them have been placed in custody in the pre-trial detention center until January 10, 2025. Operational and investigative measures are underway to identify other organizers and participants of the organized criminal group.

In July, Kyrgyzstan’s intelligence services also reported the exposure of a criminal group that “was planning a violent seizure of power and destabilization of the socio-political situation.” For this purpose, the participants were planning to organize mass riots.
