A large number of political and social activists took out rallies and staged demonstration here on Friday to condemn the police for its failure to recover a 2-year boy kidnapped some ten days back.

The boy, Abdul Ahad son of Abdul Qayoom Bhatti, was abducted from Shaikh Mohalla of Ubauro by two unidentified persons riding a bicycle. It is said that the kidnappers have demanded ransom for releasing the child, however his father, an employee of a private company, is unable to meet the kidnappers’ demand.

The protest rallies were organized by political parties and religious organizations – Pakistan Peoples’ Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party and Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam. The rallies were taken out from different localities of town and turned into big demonstration outside local press club where the protesters staged sit-in.

Speaking on this occasion, the PPP-SB leaders Ali Nawaz Sapiyo, Sodho Khan Chawhan, STP leader Jam Abdul Fattah Samejo and JUI leader Maulana Abdul Saboor Gurgage, condemning the police failure, warned the administration and the police authorities of widening the scope of protest if the boy was not recovered safely within two days.

The political leaders said that lawlessness has increased in Ubauro and surrounding areas and the crime incidents are occurring frequently but the police have remained indifferent to such a grave situation. According to protesting leaders, the kidnappers have demanded ransom of ten million rupees for releasing the child but the parents have no resources to pay the ransom.

“Today’s peaceful protest is a clear message to the police and administration to recover the kidnapped boy or otherwise the scope of protest would spread to entire province,” the political leaders warned.

The protesters further alleged that one of their youths Ali Akhtar Bhutto received injuries when the influential Wadera hit him with his vehicle. “We again approached the police but they didn’t issue letter for medico-legal formalities,” they said.

Bhutto community people warned of staging demonstration and sit-in outside SSP office if the kidnapped person was not recovered. They also appealed Chief Minister Sindh, IG Police Sindh and DIG Police Sukkur for taking action for safe recovery of Muhammad Ayub Bhutto.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Nabi Chachar addressed press conference at the press club and rejecting the kidnapping allegation termed it a ‘kidnapping drama’.

Chachar said they have dispute over piece of land and accused the Bhutto community people of occupying his land. “Being a worker of PPP, I appeal to our party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to help and get the occupied land back.”

When contacted, the police officials told that the investigation is underway and the FIR of kidnapping would be registered only after the probe is over.
