Tharparkar’s RO Plant Operators Observe Hunger Strike for 5-month Salary

Mithi: A number of employees working Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plants across desert district Tharparkar Thursday started hunger strike at a camp setup here outside local press club to protest against non-payment of salaries since last five months.

Employees Babu Mahranpoto, Irfan Bajer, Kaveer Meghwar, Jhaman, Babu Bajer, Rahim Samejo and others told newsmen that their families are starving since last five months due to to non-payment of salaries. “We are faced with severe financial hardships that would make us to commit suicide,” they told.

“Whenever we approached the concerned authorities, we are sent back with new excuses every time,” they said.

Soon as the RO operators started hunger strike, Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Mukhtiar Abro, Executive Engineer Public Health Department Johar Lal and Pak Oasis Manager Irshad reached there and held negotiations with agitating operators assuring them of releasing the salaries soon and making all the RO plants functional, but the talks failed as the Action Committee of employees, being not satisfied with assurance, decided to continue hunger strike.

Meanwhile, Member, District Council, Muhammad Khan Lund, STP leader Ghansham Malhi, Devji Bheel, BIF leader Soromal Bheel,  Ismail Samejo and others visited the protest camp and expressed solidarity with hunger-strikers.
