Heatwave: Umerkot Women setup camps to help citizens

The women provide essential services such as cold drinking water, sweet soft drinks to passers-by and laborers.

In response to the severe heatwave affecting Umerkot for the past five days, women from local self-help groups have taken proactive measures to support their community and the people who visit city.

Umerkot-women-heatwave-Sindh-Courier-1These women have set up a climate-adaptable heatwave camp at the Deputy Commissioner’s office nursery in Umerkot.

The initiative comes as part of an effort by the District Administration and District Disaster Management Authority to mitigate the impact of the rising temperatures on residents, locals, especially women and children, particularly daily wage workers who are most vulnerable to the extreme heat.

On the inaugural day, several officials visited the camp, including Javed Ahmed Dahiri, Additional Deputy Commissioner-I; Shubhan Shaikh, ADC-II; Rajab Ali Sathio, Assistant Commissioner Umerkot and others.

Umerkot-women-heatwave-Sindh-Courier-3The camp is part of a series of measures implemented across Umerkot district, where multiple NGOs have established similar facilities from Teen Talwar Chowk to the Bus Terminal. These camps not only provide water and sweet drinks but also disseminate vital information on heatwave precautions, highlighting community awareness and safety.
