Tragedy is that some heirs admit their patients but do not adopt them after recovery – Commissioner Hyderabad

Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Abbas Baloch inaugurated on Wednesday two newly- constructed wards for rehabilitation of drug addicts at Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry in Hyderabad.

Speaking on this occasion, Commissioner said Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry Hyderabad was being transformed into a modern hospital so that patients suffering from mental disorders and drug addiction could be treated in modern way and after recovery they could be made useful citizens of the society.

Baloch said that earlier patients suffering from various diseases were kept in the same ward in this institute but now they had been categorized and kept according to their ages and diseases separately and as the patient recovers, he / she would be provided recreational environment so that he could return to his normal life.

He said that a new ward was also being set up for female patients so that those who have recovered could be taught various home skills and crafts. “Tragedy was that some heirs admit their patients but do not adopt them after recovery. In this regard, a committee was being formed to convince the heirs to take the recovered patients to their homes,” he told.

Commissioner-Hyderabad-Sir-Cowasjee-Institute-Sindh-Courier-1Commissioner said that the steps taken by Saylani Welfare Trust and Darul Sukun Trust in this regard were commendable.

On the occasion, DIG Hyderabad Range Pir Mohammad Shah said that strict measures had been taken for the prevention of drug menace in the region and all SSPs had been directed strictly to take action against those involved in sell of ice drug.

He said that all the information of the patients coming in the anti-narcotics wards should be shared with Police as most of the drug addicts were involved in various crimes so their information / record was very important for the police.

Head of Darul Sukun Morris Khurshid, Chief Executive of Darul Sukun Anna Daniel, Regional Managers of Saylani Welfare Trust Imtiaz Ali and Zakir Saylani, MS of Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry Dr. Syed Amir also briefed about their performance. (PR)
