A comprehensive interview to celebrate the Year of Poetry, broadcasted by Cultural Nile TV Channel (21.01.2024) hosted Ashraf Aboul-Yazid to talk to presenter Mahmood Sharaf.
The interview narrated the career of the author and translator of 44 books of novels, volumes of poetry, art criticism, works of translation, travel and children literature.
Ashraf also highlighted his early encounter with poetry at school, his first punished books of poetry, why did he write novels and how they are different. He also brought to viewers his opinion about the current travel literature in Arabic.
Ashraf talked about the translations of his books into many languages including English, Persian, Sindhi, Malayalam, Azerbaijani and Russian.
Three short videos were woven with the 38 minutes talk; the first is the biography entitled (A Lonely Drop) directed by Egyptian director Fatima Alzahraa Hassan, and narrated by Tunisian presenter Saida El Zoghby. The second film, (A River on Travel), was a video poem of the author’s travels, especially those published in the book with the same title. The third video show case his participation in the 5th edition of the Eurasia Literary Festival, Istanbul (LIFFT 2021), which awarded him the Gold Medal.
The TV meeting of Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, the national coordinator of World Poetry Movement (WPM), showed him reciting dome of his poems. He also talked about the Korean monks who became poets, especially Ko Un, who celebrated his 90th birthday last summer. Ko Un was one of three poets whose selections of their poems were translated into Arabic in three books by the Egyptian poet.
In Kaohsiung International Poetry Festival, Taiwan, Ashraf showcased two books he translated into Arabic, which he talked about them and read some of their texts.
