Khairpur: A memorial condolences reference was held here on Thursday for the International Peace and Human Rights Activist I. A. Rehman who passed away recently.

Institute of International Relations, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, had organized the reference in Collaboration with Rotary Club Khairpur, Gradsy International, Calyx Foundation and The Accountability Lab Pakistan, Islamabad at Social Sciences Faculty Auditorium of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.

Professor Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the reference on behalf of Vice Chancellor of University Prof Dr. Khalil Ahmad Ibbupoto.

Memorial Reference held for rights activist I. A. Rehman - Sindh Courier-2Speaking on the occasion Dr. Lashari lauded the tireless efforts of late Ibne- Abdul Rehman ( I. A. Rehman) saying that he was among the Legends of Human Rights, Peace and Social Justice. “He often visited Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur to lead and empower faculty and students with his very dynamic intellectual thoughts.”

“Keeping in view the services of Late I. A. Rehman, the auditorium or a classroom would be officially designated in his loving memory,” he said.

Prof Dr. Amir Ahmad Khuhro, Director Institute of International Relations in his keynote speech highly appreciated the efforts of late I.A Rehman and acknowledged that the given path of human rights, peace and prosperity by late Rehman would be encapsulated academically in course work of the discipline of International Relations & Peace and Conflict Studies.

Sarfaraz Ali Korejo, Executive Director, Students Advancement Fund Endowment & Charter President of Rotary Club Khairpur Bhittai said that late I.A. Rehman was a noble soul, well-wisher of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur and had been very kind in visiting frequently to grace the events on Peace, Human Rights, Media and Social issues as Keynote Speaker. “His work and contribution needed to be academically revisited / searched by all the participants of today’s event.”

Korejo informed the audience that Rotary International & Rotary Foundation firmly believed in celebrating the Peace Icons and announced that Certificate Courses / Workshops would be a regular series to empower and enhance the capacity of students and faculty. As a good will gesture he announced that renovation of any Classroom with study material would be the responsibility of Rotary Club Khairpur Bhittai.

“Very soon MoU would be inked by Rotary with Institute of International Relations, Department of the Peace and Conflict Studies of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur,” he told.

Reza Shahani, faculty member, Department of Pakistan Study also spoke on the occasion. Prof Dr. Liaqat Ali Chandio, Aijaz Ahmad Shaikh, Dr. Zaheer Hussain Soomro and large number of university students attended the event.

Fateha was offered for the departed soul of late I A. Rehman with a candle vigil. Ms. Shaherbanu Soomro offered the vote of thanks on behalf of students and faculty to the guest speakers and students. (PR)
