Lee Kuei-shien
Born in 1937 with Taiwan nationality, Lee Kuei-shien has published 53 poetry books in different languages, including English, Mongol, Russian, Romanian, Spanish, French, Korean, Bengali, Serbian, Turkish, Albanian, German and Hindi and yet to be published in Macedonian and Arabic. His poetry books in English translation include ‘Love is my Faith’, ‘Beauty of Tenderness’, ‘Between Islands’, ‘The Hour of Twilight’, ‘20 Love Poems to Chile’, ‘Existence or Non-existence’, ‘Response’, ‘Sculpture & Poetry’, ‘Two Strings’, ‘Sunrise and Sunset’ and ‘Selected Poems by Lee Kuei-shien’. His achievement in poetry creation has been awarded internationally in India, Mongolia, Korea, Bangladesh, Macedonia, Peru, Montenegro and Serbia.
Monologue by Lighthouse
On the vast sea
I wish to emit a spot of light for you
Leading a certain direction.
Perhaps you will depart for touring everywhere,
Further go and further away,
Or you may decide to moor on the shoreline,
Staying together in this beautiful island,
Leaning on the meandering coast.
In daytime, although perhaps just a simple scenery,
At night, it definitely emits a brilliant ray
Illuminating the history of seacoast
Until dawn.
When you stay, we will accompany you on this island.
When you leave, we will be separated forever.

茫茫海上
我願給妳一點光
指點一個方向
或許妳從此遠遊四方
漸去漸遠
或許妳決心靠岸
廝守美麗的海島
偎倚曲折的海岸
白天單純是一個景點
夜裡絕對會放射光芒
照耀海岸歷史
直到天亮
妳留下 共存海角
妳離去 各自天涯

Taiwan Island
From the waves of white satin
You emerge as the island.
The dense forest of black hair
Drifts with nostalgic yearning.
On the tiny soft white sand beaches
Are imprinted with countless shell kisses.
Taking a birds-eye view from the sky,
Your beauty of texture is so captivating
That I land on your body eagerly.
You are a mermaid
On the Pacific Ocean,
The coordinate of my eternal homeland.
