Positive and Negative Impacts of AI on Society Debated

Groups argued for and against the Artificial Intelligence citing the examples of its positive and negative impacts

The students actively took part in a debate on “Artificial Intelligence: Its Positive and Negative Impacts on Society” organized on Tuesday by the Young Peace Development Corp. (YPDC), Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur Chapter.

The two groups of the students of various institutes and departments of university participated in the debate on the theme. They said that Artificial Intelligence’s (AI) impact on society is broadly debated. There are different arguments and analysis that AI improves the standard of life style by doing routine and even highly complex tasks better than humans.

SALU-AI-Debate-1It is said that AI shaped life very simple, secure and more organized while its opponents argued that AI has confronts, unsafe privacy risks, exacerbates racism by standardizing people, and costs workers their jobs. The AI will create job insecurity in the shape of unemployment.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, speaking on this occasion, said this era is of science and technology and we have witnessed its boom. The adaptation of new trends, techniques and methods in our in our daily life and even society is called technology.

He said it depends on our attitude, how we are utilizing, using and adopting it in positive way for welfare of the humanity and state.

SALU-Debate-2Prof. Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari said our students possess talent, curiosity and initiative. This event is a glaring example of it. The students’ activism will lead for positive competition. He also commended the ideas of the students on the theme.

Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Maitlo and Mir Abdul Faiq Talpur were the judges of the debate. A group, led by Abdul Razaaque, was adjudged as the winner while another group, led by Zeeshan, was the runner up.

Dr. Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, Shumaila Rabab Rizvi and large number of students attended the debate.
