New university campus requires the plantation of ornamental and fruit-bearing plants – Vice Chancellor

Sakrand, Sindh

Over 1000 saplings were planted at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences new campus in Sakrand during the tree plantation campaign launched on March 30, 2023.

Students and the faculty actively participated in the tree plantation drive. The first sapling was planted by the Vice Chancellor followed by Deans, teachers, and administrative officers. The activity was initiated by the Green Society aimed at creating awareness besides

Tree PlantationDuring the activity, Professor Dr. Abdullah G Arijo gave a presentation on Water Pollution. The presentation was attended by a large number of students and faculty.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Muhammad Farooq Hassan speaking on the occasion, said that plantation is essential for the country’s ecosystem and clean environment. He said that plants produce oxygen and through transpiration, help reduces global warming. “Massive plantation drives can reduce the effects of global warming,” he said.

Tree Plantation-1Dr. Farooq said that launching a plantation drive is easy but maintaining plants until they turn into trees is a difficult task. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every member of society to play their role in taking care of these plants.

He said that both the public and private sector plant tens of thousands of saplings but, unfortunately, most of them die due to lack of care and maintenance thereafter.

He further said that the new university campus requires the plantation of ornamental and fruit-bearing plants. Those who start this charity today will be rewarded forever and this ongoing charity will be a great contribution.

Prof. Dr. Zahid Iqbal Rajput, Dean of Animal Sciences together with Vice Chancellor announced of campus botanical Garden and Herbarium Centre at SBBUVAS and hoped that SBBUVAS would become clean and green if more young people can be engaged in the cause of planting trees.

He further said that tree plantation shall be a regular event and plantation drives should be conducted on a regular basis. He hoped that from this moment onwards the university administration will take care of the saplings after they have been planted. A significant number of students, university officers and faculty took an active part in the campaign. (PR)
