India-Pakistan Cricket: Victory Vs Bigotry
Indian Cricketer Muhammad Shami

If Pakistan has won, it’s due to its collective team efforts and if India has lost it is due to collective failure.

Pakistan Cricket Team has made a landmark achievement after conveniently defeating its biggest cricketing rival. It seems Pakistan has won the T20 world cup after winning this match.

I really like the spirit of the game of shaking hands and greetings, especially when Virat Kohli graciously hugged Pakistani openers, who made it all happen. However, what was most disturbing to notice that Muslim Player, Muhammad Shami from Indian side had to face all the blame of losing the match – the vitriolic abusers on social media made memes of his siding with opponent, called him Pakistani, which is very bad omen.

If Pakistan has won, it’s due to its collective team efforts and if India has lost it is due to collective failure. India needs to push back at this lunacy that’s infected some Indians. What do these bigots teach their children when they lose a race in school – to abuse their fellow citizen if there is a loss? Surprisingly speaking, Indian cricket team went to take a gratuitous knee for Black Lives Matter, entirely detached from the Indian reality, but stay silent on the bigoted online attacks against M. Shami?

This communalism, caste biasness and Islamophobic hate is a norm in India; Muslim players are feeling insecure and unsafe due to current trend.

Lastly, there is no doubt about Shami’s commitment to the country of birth, India is a secular country which is enshrined in its constitution and must remain so.
