Death toll in a house fire incident in Khairpur city rose to five due to dearth of treatment facilities for the burn patients at Civil Hospital Khairpur.

The fire had erupted at the house of Rafiulalh Shaikh, owner of a pharmacy, on Tuesday after he started a generator connected to a LPG gas cylinder, at Mir Ali Bazaar in the heart of Khairpur city.

Reports said that fire in the generator caused the explosion of LPG cylinder and within no time the entire house caught the fire. The citizens rushed for the rescue of the family but by that time eight members of the family had received severe burn injuries.

Due to lack of the burns ward in Khairpur Civil Hospital, the patients were shifted to GIMS hospital and later to Karachi, where Ayat d/o Rafiullah Shaikh, Amber w/o Rafiuallah, Muhammad s/o Ahsan Bablo, Insha d/o Noman Shaikh and unborn baby of wife of Noman died, while the mother of a deceased child and two others were hospitalized.

Incident created shock waves among the people as the bodies reached from Karachi to Khairpur where they were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard.

The suspension of gas supply and frequent and prolonged power cuts are main cause of fire, as the people are compelled to operate generators on LPG.

Citizens of Khairpur lamented that politicians of Khairpur have always remained in power but failed to get established a burns ward in Civil Hospital Khairpur.
