Corruption cannot be eliminated completely but it could be reduced to some extent if the government makes sincere efforts.

The word corruption comes from Latin word “corrumpo” which means to decompose or break. The Oxford dictionary defines corruption as ‘an act of dishonesty or an illegal behavior aimed at using public office for one’s private gain’.

In fact, the misuse of public wealth for personal interests is said to be corruption. This usually is done by those who are trusted the most such as elected politicians or appointed civil servants. There is no denying from the fact that there could be various reasons of corruption. Dearth of rule of law seems the major one. Poverty, inflation and lust of wealth accumulation are few other causes among many. Moreover, corruption in offices is owing to low salaries, which ultimately opens ways for illegal means to wallow their illegal wants. Surely, this all is mainly because of lack of accountability. Additionally, the government is completely aloof regarding the worst condition of poor nation. It feels that government damn cares about health, education and other social issues. They (Govt.) are busy pouring money in their pockets. Resultantly, the sound and wealthy people even do not feel the need to pay the taxes as the government has lost the credibility. Fulfilling the basic necessities of people has turned to be daydream.

There are many institutions in Pakistan which are prone to corruption such as police, judiciary, education and health etc. Pakistan is badly suffering from the pandemic of corruption. It is very unfortunate to say that the corruption cannot be eliminated completely but it could be reduced to some extent if the government makes any sincere effort. There is a need to stop the ritualistic culture. Present leaders of Pakistan should take strict actions against the corrupt. This has to be started by someone. Revolutionary steps ought to be taken along with sincere efforts. Some radical steps should be taken by government and elimination of poverty will work too.
