Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will inaugurate the Manhora Beach Promenade on Saturday October 30. This will be the 1st of its kind initiative in Karachi for recreation and will serve as a major attraction for beach lovers and local as well as foreign tourists.

The project had been brought by the Sindh government so that the citizens of Karachi, rest of Sindh and Pakistan who loved the sea, could enjoy leisure time.

Beach-Promenade-ManhoraThe provincial government had started working on this project early this year through Karachi Development Authority.

In order to facilitate the visitors, canopy-style chairs have been installed for citizens besides food court built on the shores of Manhora for the convenience of the people where healthy food would be available.

Besides a walkway for pedestrians along the shore, a stairway has also been built to provide easy access to the Manhora beach, owing to the hilly terrain of the adjacent area. Moreover, a ramp has been built for wheelchair access to enable the differently-abled beach-goers to reach the shoreline.

Sindh government is also constructing Sandspit-Mauripur Road and after construction of this road, it will take only 20 minutes to reach the beach from Tower.

Karachi’s Manhora Island is a small peninsula between the Karachi Harbor and the Arabian Sea. Unlike its name, the beach is no longer an island as it has been connected to mainland Karachi via the Sandspit Beach. The place is quite popular with locals of the metropolis as a tourist resort. People often travel to Manora Island via Kemari in boats as the land route towards the island is off-route and long. While boat rides shorten their traveling time, it also becomes a source of adventure for first-timers.

It may be mentioned that the Manhora Island falls in the jurisdiction of Cantonment Board and has its own Beach Resort. Last month, the Cantonment Board Manhora had auctioned its beach for a resort to Dreamworld Company for five years after it became the highest bidder.

In August, the Cantonment Board had advertised in newspapers that it was going to hold a mega auction for a Manhora Beach Resort.

The resort, a commercial project of the cantonment board called “Manora Beach Resort”, comprises a ground plus two floor building along with four tuck shops near the historic Varun Dev Temple. There is an open area of 1,562 square yards at the beach view site. This infrastructure has been constructed by the cantonment and handed over to private company for further renovation.
