Sudanese refugees in Chad, along with members of the local community in the city of Amdjarass, continue to flock to the Emirati field hospital in Amdjarass to seek medical services.

Since its inauguration on 9th July 2022, the hospital has treated over 18,854 cases, comprising children, the elderly, men and women from both the Sudanese refugees and Chadian locals, receiving around 80 patients daily.

The hospital’s medical team has successfully performed more than 389 surgeries, ranging from minor to major operations.

The field hospital was established under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and it operates through the collaboration of three UAE humanitarian organizations: the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation (ZHF) and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, in coordination with UAE’s Aid Coordination Office. This humanitarian, relief and medical support is being extended to Sudanese refugees affected by the current crisis in their country and aims to assist Chad in dealing with the humanitarian impact of the large influx of refugees.

The UAE humanitarian team in Amdjarass conducted a field visit to the hospital to check on patients and follow up on their medical condition. They reviewed the operations of the hospital and its possible future needs in case the number of patients rises.

Jassim Al Naqbi, Representative of the Emirates Red Crescent in the UAE humanitarian team, said that field visit is part of the team’s ongoing efforts to ensure providing comprehensive, quality services to patients, highlighting the hospital’s achievements in supporting people from all over Chad.

He affirmed that the UAE was keen to supply the hospital with a comprehensive interdisciplinary medical team, noting that the capacity of the hospital was increased from 50 to 70 beds recently, expandable to 100 beds should the need arise.

Patients receiving treatment expressed their gratitude to the UAE for its constant support and provision of medical services, noting that the hospital’s establishment was timely, especially in terms of supporting Sudanese refugees.

An integrated medical staff in all specialties provides its services around the clock and with high professionalism, represented by dozens of doctors, pharmacists, nurses and technicians with experience and high efficiency, using the latest medical devices and equipment and modern medicines to treat the hospital’s visitors.

The hospital houses three main zones; the red emergency zone which treats critical cases; the yellow zone which treats moderate cases; and the green zone which treats daily care cases.
