Awami Tehreek organized a protest rally in Daho Mile Mori near Mirpurkhas on Monday March 18 against six new canals on the Indus River, the SIFC, IRSA Act amendments, and corporate farming. Slogans were raised against water theft. Demands include immediate halt to the Cholistan Canal project.

Indus-Rally-Sindh Courier-1Addressing the rally, Awami Tehreek’s Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, Senior Vice President Noor Ahmad Katiar, Dr. Dildar Laghari, Mukhtiar Khaskheli, and others stated that PTI and PPP are two sides of the same coin. PTI is staging political drama on the canal issue, just like PPP.  PTI’s Arif Alvi signed the bill to establish SIFC, an unconstitutional institution. PTI plays fake and fraudulent opposition role.

They also condemned PPP’s deceit and fraud, vowing to resist the party just as Sindh resisted dictators like General Zia, Ayub, and Musharraf. “PPP is no longer a political party but a mafia of thieves, fraudsters, and traitors, selling the Indus River for power,” they contended.

Leaders accused the Shehbaz-led government of committing economic genocide of 70 million Sindhis under the guise of the “Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI).”  They called on all patriots to oppose this exploitation of the Indus.

Indus-Rally-Sindh Courier-2They argued that the new canals threaten not only Sindh’s environment and economy but also attack Pakistan’s federation. “SIFC is an unelected body; empowering it over elected assemblies is murdering democracy,” they asserted. They demanded an immediate end to land auctions and the sale of the Indus River under SIFC, declaring, “Sindh’s lands and the Indus belong to the Sindhi nation—no government has the right to sell them.”

Punjab’s rulers must be held accountable for 150 years of water theft. They demanded the closure of all Punjab’s illegal canals and barrages to restore the Indus River’s natural flow, urging Sindhis to unite against this injustice.

The leaders condemned PPP for trading the Indus River to retain power. They also criticized PTI as a “fascist party,” accusing it of mimicking PPP’s deceit on the canal issue. “PTI members in Punjab’s assembly support these canals, proving all ruling elites—PPP, PTI, PML-N—are united against Sindh’s interests,” they said.
