On behalf of ‘Larkana Literary Society’, the third death anniversary of Prof Naila Gul “Sapna” Qazi, renowned poet and prose writer of Sindhi language, was commemorated at Government Begum Nusrat Bhutto Girls’ Degree College, Larkana.
The memorial program was attended by a number of teachers, students as well as local writers, poets and literary enthusiasts. Prior to the ceremony, flowers were sprinkled in front of Sapna Gul’s portrait and tributes were paid to her by lighting beacons in front of it.
Speaking to the occasion, Prof Samina Naz Abro said that Naila belonged to a well-known scholarly and literary family. She herself had a multitalented persona. She possessed many virtues being a unique poet, prose writer, calligrapher and compere, and this was a God’s gift to her that she owned so many qualities at the same time. “We sometimes feel, as if she is around us and will soon appear to share with us some of her fiction or poetry,” she said and stated that ‘Sapna always encouraged us to write and also corrected our writings. We intend to publish her poetry collection on this day next year on behalf of the Larkana Literary Society.’
Dr. Pareh Sakina Gaad, an activist of Gomi Bai Ladies Club and PPP Ladies Wing Larkana, expressed that writers, poets and painters never die. They always remain in the form of their writings and art works.

Expressing his views, Rizwan Gul said that Naila Gul is a shining star of contemporary Sindhi literature. Her parting is a matter of grief not only for her family, near and dear ones, but also for hundreds of her pupils, fellow teachers and readers. The distinctiveness of her writings and her artistic and intellectual prowess will never let her be forgotten, even though she is physically separated.
Highlighting various aspects of Sapna’s personality and literary services, great tribute was also paid by Prof Faheem Ansari, Principal, Government Girls’ Degree College, Naodero, Prof Nafees Ansari, Principal, Govt. I know you, the Dream Girl!
(A poetic tribute to Naila Gul ‘Sapna’ Qazi)
By Noor Malaa’ik Brohi
How to love someone,
You have never met…
How to speak about somebody,
You have never seen…
How to feel the ache
Of someone’s leaving
Someone… who has never been
A fragment of your life
Maybe ‘Love’ is the answer…
Love, in the eyes of folks…
We love, who adore them
For the people,
Who’re being loved
Leave their traces in us…
They become,
A part of, who we are…
Today,
I am penning down a poem
On you
‘You’… a soul,
I don’t know about, but…
A little…
A tiny…
Through reading you,
In the eyes of those
Who reminisce you
Each moment of their lives…
I know you…,
By knowing the people,
You’ve loved…
Through your compassion
Your dedication…
And being, who you are!
You have left,
Your essence in them…
…You have left
Your odour within us…
You travelled with us…
Wherever we are,
Within our hearts
You are with us,
At every stride
You are with us,
Where ever we are…
