Didi Mohini Chandiramani was the Founding Pillar of London’s Sindhi Community House
Born in pre-Partition Sindh, Didi Mohini moved to Kolkata during her childhood, where her spiritual path was formed in the 1950s.
LONDON / KOLKATA — Didi Mohini Parumal Chandiramani, a founding member, trustee, and director of the Sindhi Community House in London, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones, announced the Sindhi Community House, London.
Her passing marks the end of a lifelong journey dedicated to spiritual teaching, selfless community service, and the preservation of Sindhi heritage across India and the United Kingdom.
Early Life and Spiritual Roots in Kolkata
Born in pre-Partition Sindh, Didi Mohini moved to Kolkata during her childhood, where her spiritual path was formed in the 1950s. At around age 20, she connected with Dada Ishwar Balani, who had established the Holy Mission of Guru Nanak’s original mandir on Chowringhee Lane—a sanctuary that later evolved into the Amrit Vela Mandir.
Living adjacent to the mandir, Didi Mohini became part of a core youth group, often referred to as the “A-Group.” Under Dada Ishwar Balani’s guidance, members learned devotional songs (bhajans) played on a gramophone and subsequently taught younger children (Kirtan Sohila and the life teachings of Guru Nanak). Alongside her day job as an administrator, Didi Mohini devoted her evenings and weekends to community operations, printing mission bulletins, preparing Sunday langar (community meals), and managing kitchen logistics.
Leadership and Service at London’s Sindhi Mandir
When Dada Ishwar Balani relocated to London to expand the Holy Mission, Didi Mohini joined him at his request. In the UK, she initially balanced a full-time administrative career with her duties at the mission’s early premises on Carlton Avenue East.
Following the acquisition and establishment of the Sindhi Community House in Cricklewood, London, she retired from professional administrative work to commit full-time to the mandir. Over the subsequent decades, she served as a Trustee and Director, overseeing core daily operations, managing community programs, and mentoring young volunteers.
A Legacy of Resilience and Compassion
Associates, friends, and community members remember Didi Mohini for her warmth, humor, and resilience in the face of long-standing health and mobility challenges. Beyond her organizational roles, she remained dedicated to hands-on kitchen service and direct pastoral care, assisting individuals and families facing personal hardships.
Didi Mohini Chandiramani is survived by her extended family, fellow mission associates, and a wide network of community members and volunteers across the global Sindhi diaspora. Memorial arrangements and services at the Sindhi Community House in London will be announced by the family and temple leadership.
