Power Breakdown in Larkana: A Man-Made Disaster

The concerned authorities didn’t realize the agonies of general public and the anxiety is growing among the people causing mental stress

Few days ago the rural areas of Sindh suffered from winds and thunderstorm that caused problem of power breakdown.

The Larkana district and adjoining areas also suffered a lot as according to reports around two dozen electric poles fell down due to high velocity winds and the entire district remained without electricity for over four days due to this disaster.

The people of Larkana and other cities faced hell like situation even during Eid days due to scorching summer. There had been acute shortage of water and even there was dearth of ice as the ice factories couldn’t meet the growing demand of ice. In the absence of electricity, refrigerators and air conditioners became useless.

However, it was strange that in some areas of Larkana, there seemed no issue of electricity. If the poles were re-erected, why the half of the city was deprived of electricity? Similar reports were received also from Shahdadkot-Qambar district.

The concerned authorities didn’t realize the agonies of general public. The anxiety is growing among the people causing mental stress. Several cases of heat stroke have also been reported by the media but even then situation remains unchanged.

I am sure, even if the fallen poles are re-erected, the electricity supply will not improve as the power supply company would continue hours-long load shedding. I am compelled to say that this was not a natural but the man-made disaster, caused by inefficiency and corruption rampant in Power Company.

I would request the government to resolve this issue as soon as possible, as the people are sick of such a situation.
