The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China will transfer $100,000 to Bishkek to aid in the aftermath of the accident at the heat and power plant (CHP), the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan informed.

The discussion about Chinese assistance took place during a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Aibek Moldogaziev, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Kyrgyzstan, Du Dewen.

Ambassador Du Dewen emphasized that China and Kyrgyzstan are good neighbors and reliable partners, and their bilateral relations are “at a historical high.”

“In connection with the accident at the Bishkek CHP, the secretary of the party committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Ma Xinzhui, sent a letter to the head of the Kyrgyz government. Also, on behalf of the party committee and the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, he expressed wishes for the recovery of the victims and announced the provision of humanitarian financial assistance to the capital of Kyrgyzstan in the amount of $100,000,” said the statement from the Chinese Embassy.

It is noted that the Embassy will transfer the funds in the near future.

Deputy Minister Moldogaziev, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for their assistance.

Due to the explosion at the Bishkek CHP on February 2 of this year, approximately 60,000 apartments in the city temporarily lacked hot water and heating. Five people were injured in the accident, and the recovery efforts were completed a week later. Authorities mentioned that the heat and power plant might need to be modernized, and the heating supply system in the capital could be decentralized.
