Days Wander Aimlessly Without You

A Poem from Sindh

You are not here…

The days,

With a few broken coins of time

Jingling in their pockets,

Keep wandering

Through forgotten streets.

The Days Wander Aimlessly Without You

You are not here…

The days,

With a few broken coins of time

Jingling in their pockets,

Keep wandering

Through forgotten streets.

Every evening

Perches upon the branches of trees,

Thinking your name,

Then quietly

Folds its wings into silence.

The sunlight

Resting by the window

Lingers for a long while,

Pretending to be

The echo of your approaching footsteps;

Then, exhausted,

It scatters itself

Across the floor.

I sit here,

Holding

An unfinished moment

Upon the palm of my hand,

Like a child

Who still insists

That a broken firefly

Can somehow

Give birth to light.

Come, someday…

 Lay your smile

Upon the forehead of these wandering days.

For they have waited

For far too long,

Like a prayer

Still yearning

To be answered.
