Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have agreed to work together on Green Climate Fund, under which water management courses will be proposed in the curriculum of Sindh province, experts will work on research and surveys in different fields related with agriculture.
SAU and FAO agreed on joint research on different fields of food, Agriculture and climate change, in a meeting with Ms. Emelda Berejena, Technical Adviser of FAO in Pakistan, who visited Sindh Agriculture University on Wednesday. She met Dr. Fateh Marri Vice Chancellor, and discussed issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Ms. Emelda Berejena said, “We want to set up a FAO Center at Sindh Agriculture University and establish a Green Climate Fund in the institution.”
“Experts from University will conduct joint research on drought, environmental pollution, effects of Climate Change, Indus Delta, agronomy, horticulture, soil science, water management and other areas, related with Agriculture,” she added.
Dr. Fateh Marri said that SAU is conducting research on various agricultural issues in collaboration with various national and international institutions, especially on food security, climate change, pure seeds of different crops, fruits, and vegetables and indigenous species of Live Stock.
He said that full cooperation would be extended to FAO for setting up of its Center at University and research work would be started with FAO on various projects as well as proper management of irrigation water, which will improve the agriculture of Sindh and provide better benefits to the farmers, while a course on proper use and importance of water will be introduced in the curriculum of Sindh.
Representatives from Green Climate Fund Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed Nahyoon, Mr. Ali Kumbhar and Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar, Director University Advances and Financial Assistance, SAU also expressed their views on the occasion. (PR)
