A high level meeting convened on Tuesday to review the arrangements for conduction general elections on February 8, was informed that 4000 highly sensitive polling stations would be equipped with CCTV cameras funded by the provincial government.

Sindh-Election-High-Level-Meeting-Sindh CourierFederal Minister for Communications, Railways and Maritime Affairs Shahid Ashraf Tarar presided over the meeting of a high-level committee to oversee security for the upcoming general elections. The committee was constituted the caretaker Prime Minister.

Chief Secretary Sindh, Dr. Muhammad Fakhre Alam provided detailed information on the preparations for the general elections, highlighting the damages caused to schools in the province due to recent floods. He informed that funds amounting to 1.5 billion rupees were allocated for the repair of these schools. Additionally, 3 billion rupees were allocated for missing facilities in polling stations for the elections.

An official handout issued from the office of Chief Secretary stated that speaking on security matters, DG Rangers Sindh Major General Azhar Waqas announced the deployment of 10,000 Rangers personnel for the general elections. IG Sindh, in his briefing, stated that 122,000 police force would be deployed for security purposes.

Sindh-Election-High-Level-Meeting-Sindh Courier-2Addressing the gathering, Federal Minister Shahid Ashraf Tarar, emphasized that the primary objective of this committee is to ensure the security and peaceful conduct of the 2024 general elections. He further informed about the establishment of an Election Cell within the Federal Interior Ministry to oversee the secure conduct of elections, involving representatives from all law enforcement agencies.

Provincial Caretaker Home Minister Brigadier (R) Haris Nawaz, ACS Home Muhammad Iqbal Memon, IG Police Sindh Riffat Mukhtar Raja, and representatives of Pakistan Army attended the meeting.
