Her Love Has Captivated Me

A Poem from Algeria

She is the warmth against winter’s chill, healing my spirit,

Mending the wounds inflicted by the passage of time.

She makes the stars of my life shine and uplifts me,

The sun and moon of my heart’s own world.

HER LOVE HAS CAPTIVATED ME

If your comfort lies in estrangement, then forsake me;

If you are blind to my worth and fail to cherish it;

If you intend to part ways, do not betray me—

Why harbor the intent to strike a treacherous blow?

I speak it openly when the moment calls; it stirs my soul,

A bond forged over time—to lose it is a heavy cost.

The wound to my heart bleeds deep, carving its mark;

Though ages pass, it is a hurt I cannot forgive.

Since we parted, a memory haunts my thoughts

A lifelong imprint I can never cast aside.

A tale of love that holds me in its thrall,

Lost in the sea of passion, my heart adrift.

Longing surges, closing in and surrounding me,

Whenever I see your image—that vision of you.

Your love took hold, capturing my very heart,

Seizing my veins, binding them tight in its grip.

It steals my sleep, keeping me wakeful through the night,

While I burn in the heat of its glowing embers.

Look into her eyes, and you would surely understand;

Glory to the Creator who fashioned her so beautifully.

I live in joy, a happiness that washes over me,

Seeing her radiant, in the bloom of her youth.

She soothes my soul’s deep aches and comforts me,

Making my world—my paradise—blossom and shine.

I pray to remain with her, sheltered in her grace,

Living a happy life, guarding our love together.

Oh bird, fly to her and carry my message

Though my sea lies far apart from hers.

Separation is a tormenting fire I cannot endure;

I yearn only to see my loved ones and find relief.

My spring brightens with her; she lights up my world,

And the autumn of my life blooms anew in her presence.

She is the warmth against winter’s chill, healing my spirit,

Mending the wounds inflicted by the passage of time.

She makes the stars of my life shine and uplifts me,

The sun and moon of my heart’s own world.

I pray to my Lord… Come what may,

My love for Algeria—dear and held in high esteem—endures;

May the entire nation be preserved and granted victory,

And may retribution befall any who wish to see her undone.

My country 🇩🇿 shall remain exalted, towering like the Burnous,

Spreading its protective wings over every inch of its land and sea.
