International Mother Languages Day: SALU Students present digital story on variation in Sindhi language

A program was organized on Wednesday in connection with International Mother Language Day at the Institute of English Language & Literature, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. The program was presided over by Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice-Chancellor.

In his address, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that languages are a major tool to communicate and Mother languages directly reach the heart. He said that it’s prestigious to speak in one’s own language. But unfortunately, today’s generation is feeling shame in speaking their own language. He appreciated the students for their beautiful performances.

Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Director Institute of English Language & Literature highlighted the importance of mother languages and shed light on the status of Sindhi language according to ethnologies of languages.

SALU-SindhCourierMr. Abdul Qadir Dayo, along with his team, presented the digital story on variation in Sindhi language. Mr. Azhar, Ms. Iqra, with their teams, presented the adaptation of G.B Shah’s drama Pygmalion in Sindhi language. Ms. Masooma Inayat and Mr. Sajjad Gul presented their skit on Sindhi Boli. Ms. Hafsa, Ms. Masooma and their team presented their documentary on languages spoken in. Pakistan. Ms. Soohan, Ms. Kanwal, Mr. Jawad, Ms. Seema, Ms. Aysha delivered their speeches. Ms. Soohan Soomro and Talha Channa were hosts of the event. Mr. Abdul Rasheed Soomro read poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai to show his love for Sindhi Language.

Mr. Tanveer Hussain Mangnejo, the organizer of the event lauded the efforts of the students who participated in program. He also highlighted the importance of linguistic diversity and the role of the youth in it. Prof. Mukesh Kumar said that our students have once again proved that they can be torch bearers of mother languages. He stressed upon the use of mother languages.

Prof. Dr. Gulam Mustafa Mashori, Dean Faculty of Arts & Languages, Prof. Dr. Ameer Ali Chandio, Chairman Political Science, Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Prof. Ishrat Ali Mirani, Mr. Mureed Hussain Ibupoto, Registrar and large number of faculty members and students attended the program.
