Mood of the Rain is Just like You

A Poem from Thar Desert of Sindh

The rain has a mood so like your own,

Each dropping bead in grace is blown,

Like water shaken from your hair,

When you emerge from bathing there.

The Mood of the Rain is Just like You

The rain has a mood so like your own,

Each dropping bead in grace is blown,

Like water shaken from your hair,

When you emerge from bathing there.

Each drop taps soft upon the door,

Like gentle pats I’ve felt before—

Your tender hand upon my skin.

And then it stops, as if within

A sudden anger holds your tongue,

Mid-speech, a quiet shadow flung.

The rain has a mood so like your own!

The whim that drives each falling droplet

Is like your heart—no force can stop it.

A tide that rises in your breast,

Sometimes a flood that leaves no rest,

Sometimes a force that breaks and tears,

And leaves behind a trail of cares.

And yet, a single drop can drench,

With warmth no sudden cold can quench—

Just like the fold of your embrace.

And then it lingers, slows its pace,

To tease and torment, hold and strain,

Just like your sweet, enticing pain.

Oh, the rain has a mood so like your own!
