Inspector General of National Highways and Motorways Police Syed Kaleem Imam inaugurated the building of Driving License Center in Karachi on Tuesday.
Driving License Center will be formally activated after a month. The Motorway Driving License is recognized internationally.
IG Motorway Syed Kaleem Imam said on this occasion that Karachi city is a mega city where many vehicles are registered on monthly basis and in view of this, the motorway police is providing better and easier facilities to the public. “This driving license facilitation center is part of these efforts.”
He stated that the public will be issued a driving license without any difficulty. “The test will be taken regularly from drivers obtaining the licenses. The purpose of this type of measure is to protect own and others’ lives and property.”
Underling the importance of road safety, he said that in order to create awareness, the motorway police also conducts road safety seminars in universities, colleges and various other institutions, due to which about 38 percent of accidents have been reduced this year.
IG Highways and Motorways Police added that the license issued by the motorway police is considered internationally, and it is one of the reasons for which the license is to be issued in a transparent manner.
DIG Motorways Police Ali Sher Jakhrani briefed the audience about the establishment and performance of the motorway police.
In his speech, DIG said that about 30,000 people in Pakistan suffer from road accidents on an annual basis. “So we have to take concrete steps to reduce these road accidents. The Motorway Police License Center established in Karachi will prove an important milestone in this regard.”
At the end of the ceremony, a memorandum of understanding between Highways and Motorways Police and the ESSA laboratory was also signed by DIG Motorway Police Ali Sher Jakhrani and Dr. Farah Essa.
Under this MoU, ESSA laboratory will offer 30 percent discount on laboratory tests all over Pakistan.
