Egyptian author’s new book was released the Cairo International Book Fair 2025

Published by Bayt Al-Hikma for Culture during the Cairo International Book Fair 2025, the young adult novel “My Father, the Mapmaker” by Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, with illustrations by artist Walaa Khalifa, has been released.
“Is this even possible? Your father is a mapmaker! We used to draw maps in school when we were kids, but is there really an adult whose entire job is to draw just maps?”
In this novel, we delve into the mysterious world of maps alongside our protagonist and his mapmaker father, exploring geographical phenomena through an enjoyable adventure. Without maps, we could never understand roads, distances, locations, or areas.
Author Ashraf Aboul-Yazid is an Egyptian writer with over three decades of experience in cultural journalism. His works in children’s literature include “Children of My Arab Nation,” “Underwater Mailman,” and “My Cat Writes a Book.” Among the awards he has received are the Manhae Prize for Literature (South Korea), the Sawiris Cultural Award (Egypt), the Commonwealth Foundation Medal (Kazakhstan), WOW Medal (Togo) , Eurasian Literary Festival Gold Medal (Turkey)and the Arab Journalism Award for Culture (UAE).
Illustrator Walaa Khalifa is a graphic designer and visual artist who has participated in numerous international and local art exhibitions, including Al-Hanager and Dai. She won first place in the 2015 Creativity Competition in the painting and oil painting category.
