THE ALRIGHTY – A Poem from India

Is it my creation? Wonders the Alrighty.
Am I such a faulty architect?
Did I create these wolves
Who move about in sheep’s shell?

THE ALRIGHTY
Even if God is in heaven
All is not right with the world
The bard was perhaps misinformed
Or had a hyperactive mind
To hallucinate peace and joy
In a world pock-marked with evil.
Before retiring to Heaven
I saw God ruminating over
What had gone wrong
And rueing his weakness for man
When the original pair had eaten
The forbidden fruit
It was on Devil’s bidding
And perhaps he found himself powerless
To stop the March of humanity
In the dangerous terrains
Of knowledge
Sanctified by Satan.
It is Kalyuga now,
Human blood stands tainted
So are his dreams
His dangerous passions
For wealth, fame and power
And his relentless tirade against good.
It is not a question of survival
Which distorts human vision
It is man’s inborn antipathy
To anything that smacks of goodness
Fairness and beauty which
Brings him to a moral disaster
Is it my creation? Wonders the Alrighty.
Am I such a faulty architect?
Did I create these wolves
Who move about in sheep’s shell?
Only that stays who can sell
Every inch of this land breathes Hell?
