Turkmenistan will sign a contract with the Taliban government in Afghanistan to expand the Turgundi railway border station. This was announced following the meeting between the Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, Amir Khan Muttaki, and the head of the Turkmen Agency for Transport and Communications, Mammetkhan Chakyev, Eurasiatoday reports.
According to the head of the Turkmen Agency for Transport and Communications, this will happen in the near future.
Chakyev thanked the Afghan side for the timely preparation of the land for the expansion of the station to increase its capacity.

This will allow the Afghan “Lapis Lazuli Corridor” to reach the port of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea.
The parties have also agreed on the visit to Turkmenistan of the Acting Minister of Trade of the Taliban, Nureddin Aziz, next week. In addition to meetings with business representatives, as part of the discussion of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor project, he is expected to visit the port of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan and the Taliban government in Afghanistan have started the reconstruction of the “Hairaton – Mazar-i-Sharif” railway.

Also, a Taliban delegation visited the “Hazrat Omar” mosque in Ashgabat.
The Afghan Foreign Minister Muttaki arrived for a return visit to Turkmenistan, during which he met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov and discussed a number of important issues of bilateral cooperation.
In mid-February, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan discussed financial, trade, and tax matters. The first round of negotiations between representatives of the financial sectors of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan took place in the Afghan Ministry of Finance.
