Central Cotton Research Institute Sakrand has made 30 acre land available to supply certified seeds to the farming community of the province.

Sindh Agriculture University will set up an experimental field for the expansion of wheat seed at the agricultural field of the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) in Sakrand.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sindh Agricultural University and Central Cotton Research Institute Sakrand was singed Tuesday for supply of certified wheat seeds to the farmers of Sindh.

Sindh Agriculture University has started the work for the expansion of the seed of various wheat commodities to supply certified seeds to the farming community of the province at 30 acre experimental field of CCRI at Sakrand, a press release said.

In this regard a ceremony was held in the Committee Room of Sindh Agriculture University, Tondojam, where the Director ORIC Dr. Tahmina Nagaraj of SAU and Director of Central Cotton Research Institute, A.D. Kalhoro, signed the agreement.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri said that the farmers of Sindh are facing problems of unavailability of certified seeds. “As owing to the presence of flood water in agricultural land in different areas of Sindh, cultivation target of wheat could not be achieved, and the problem of seed shortage may arise in the next season.”

He said agricultural academic and research institutes of Pakistan including Sindh need to play a role in the agricultural development of the country, He said that in the experimental field of Sindh Agriculture University, our experts are carrying out the seed extension work in a modern way. This field has been visited by experts from different experts from the world including China and Turkey.

On this occasion, Chairman of Plant Breeding and Genetics Dr. Shahnawaz Marri, Registrar Ghulam Mohiyuddin Qureshi, Director Planning and Development Dr. Muhammad Muthal Lund, Farm Officer Abdullah Keerio were also present. (PR)
