Radio has played an important role during natural disasters like floods; community issues may be highlighted by Radio.

The World Radio Day was observed by the Department of Media & Communication Studies, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur in collaboration with Media Society.
Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the event while Prof. Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Secretary Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islamabad was the chief guest.
Talking to the participants of the event, Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari said the role of Radio is remarkable during the war and peace especially Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has played pivotal role in the promotion of ethical values.
Prof. Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah said that Radio remained main source of information related to education, agriculture, national integration, sports etc. He emphasized the need that the youth of Media & Communication Studies Department may avail the current knowledge of media so they could play their positive role in the nation building with positivity. Dr. Mallah appreciated the efforts of Students Societies for capacity building of students of University.
Ahmed Ali Memon, Assistant Professor, Department of Media & Communication Studies shed light on the significance of the Radio. He said Radio has played main role of information in the days of eventuality, disaster and flood havoc especially in Pakistan.
Taj Mehmood Rind said that United Nations declared the 13 February as World Radio Day in 2011. He said the theme of this year is Radio and Peace which focuses on the role of radio as an independent medium of peace making. He said in the wake of the World War-I and II, Radio remained instrumental as far as information was concerned.
Prof. Dr. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Abro, Chairman Department of Media & Communication Studies said that in the advent of social media, the importance of Radio has been adversely affected. The theme of this year is Radio and Peace aimed at to promote the inclusive culture, tolerance and peace building. He said community based issued may be highlighted and pinpointed by Radio. It is need of the time to restore the Medium Waves Service of PBC.
Dr. Sahib Oad, Dastar Chandio and Nadeem Ahmed Diuo also spoke on this occasion. They said that YouTube connectivity with Radio may be linked because Radio is strong medium of information.
Ali Raza Lashari In-charge Students Societies Center and a large number of teachers and students attended the event.
