“It doesn’t matter if the organization is newly founded. The success and achieving the goals become easy if you have consistency. It requires passion and sincerity to work for the welfare of the targeted audience. And our organization is one of such examples,” Ms. Farzana Airy said, who heads the ‘Sindhu Dhaara Welfare Foundation’ (SDWF).

Introducing the organization based in Jamshoro town of Sindh, located on the bank of Indus River, Ms. Farzana, who has vast experience of working in NGO Sector, said, “It’s a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization founded in 2021 with the help of some educated and passionate social workers.”

“The organization considers strengthening of neglected and deprived segments of society by enhancing accessibility to sustainable livelihood sources effectively and efficiently for sustainable community development as per global standards,” she added.

Ms. Farzana said, “We strongly believe in working together with national and international humanitarian and development community to address the fundamental rights and humanitarian needs for empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable segments of rural community towards a development of sustainable society with peace and prosperity.”

Sindhu-Dhara-Sindh-Courier-2Talking about the vision of her organization, she said, “Our vision is resilient and empowered women and youth entertaining livelihood security through accessibility to sustainable livelihood for better subsistence in dignified way entertaining all basic human rights guaranteed constitutionally and internationally in the entire Pakistan particularly in Sindh province.”

“And our mission is strengthening and building capacity of marginalized and vulnerable women groups for empowerment socioeconomically to contribute, build equitable, judicious and resilient society entertaining sustainable development to ensure livelihood security in the context of climate change.”

Sindhu-Dhara-Sindh-Courier-3The strategic objectives of Sindhu Dhara Welfare Foundation are:

  1. Sindhu-Dhara-Sindh-Courier-4 (2)To reduce poverty by enhancing livelihood opportunities for women and youth
  2. To tackle gender-based violence and protect women's rights through safeguarding measures
  3. To provide psychosocial support and vocational skill development training to women and youth
  4. To implement disaster risk reduction strategies and increase the resilience of women and youth
  5. To provide access to education, health, and sanitation, and improve nutrition for women and youth
  6. To establish SDWF as a leading non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and youth
  7. To mobilize resources and promote the development of women and youth through leadership and dignity
  8. To enhance capacity building and training programs for women and youth to promote their leadership and empowerment.

According to Ms. Farzana, the Priority Thematic Areas of Sindhu Dhaara Welfare Foundation are focused on following key areas:

Sindhu-Dhara-Sindh-Courier-4Critical issues such as gender-based violence, women’s protection, disaster risk reduction, livelihood, and capacity building; literacy; vocation education; health; sanitation and nutrition; poverty reduction; women empowerment; psychosocial support and multi-sector Skill Development Trainings.

“SDWF closely works with rural and semi-urban areas together with relevant stakeholders like government and international community, and philanthropists,” she said.

Sindhu-Dhara-Sindh-Courier-5“SDWF works strategically with institutes; poor and vulnerable women groups and community through participatory approach to addressing their issues and problems at policy and practice level through research, advocacy, and campaigning for promotion and development of social justice, mutual respect, and human values through participatory development initiatives,” Ms. Farzana said.

Sharing the details of activities of SDWF, Ms. Farzana proudly said that her organization, besides providing vocational training to the women, distributing sewing machines among the women for their self-employment and economic empowerment, it actively participated in relief work for the rain-affected people in 2022. “We organized medical camps and distributed ration among scores of the flood victims.”
